\n In a stunning and emotional bombshell, a retired NYPD spokesman blasted cops over the chokehold death of Eric Garner, calling it a \u201chorrible injustice\u201d on his Instagram page.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe killed Eric Garner,\u201d Michael DeBonis, 40, an ex-detective who worked for the deputy commissioner for public information, posted last week.<\/p>\n

But he admitted he said nothing in 2014 following the Staten Island man\u2019s fatal arrest, infamous for Garner\u2019s final, videotaped words, \u201cI can\u2019t breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn writing this post I\u2019m fully aware that some of my cop friends may call me a traitor, a hypocrite or even un follow me,\u201d DeBonis wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m ok with that because if you don\u2019t agree with what I\u2019m about to say then we definitely don\u2019t see eye to eye when it comes to policing.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeBonis said Garner\u2019s bust for peddling untaxed smokes \u201cwas legal, the initial forced [sic] used to stop him from resisting was fine, but in the end \u2026 WE PUNISHED HIM FOR RESISTING ARREST \u2026 WE WATCHED HIM DIE \u2026 WE DIDN\u2019T EVEN SIT HIM UP AND RENDER HIM BASIC AID.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cIt was a horrible injustice that is forever a part of our history. \u2026 I\u2019m a hypocrite for saying this now, because I didn\u2019t say it publicly then, but WE ALL need to hold ourselves accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garner was subdued by former cop Daniel Pantaleo, who grabbed him by the neck from behind in a chokehold. The death was ruled a homicide and sparked dozens of demonstrations across the country over police brutality, and it helped fuel the Black Lives Matter movement.<\/p>\n

Pantaleo was never charged with a crime but got fired last August.<\/p>\n

DeBonis, writing under the handle m_debonis1, also stood up for his work with the NYPD and praised officers for turning around East New York, the once crime-plagued Brooklyn neighborhood, among \u201cthousands of cops working in minority communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

He wrote that \u201cthe Police are NOT the enemy \u2026 One bad cop doesn\u2019t define who we are or what we have done for this city \u2026 WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HELP THESE COMMUNITIES?\u201d<\/p>\n

The post was liked by at least 59 people before DeBonis took down his Instagram account after being called by The Post.<\/p>\n

DeBonis, who was hired by the NYPD exactly two months prior to the 9\/11 terror attacks, declined to discuss his posts.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has consumed my life the last few weeks and quite frankly I\u2019m done. Actions speak louder than words anyway,\u201d he said in a text to a Post reporter.<\/p>\n
