Frank Marshall<\/strong>, legendary film producer and the director of movies<\/a> like Arachnophobia<\/em>, Alive<\/em>, Congo<\/em>, and Eight Below<\/em>, is making sure his directing career is stayin\u2019 alive.<\/p>\n

Marshall has directed a Bee Gees documentary that has been acquired by HBO Documentary Films. The movie will trace the rise of Barry<\/strong>, Maurice<\/strong>, and Robin Gibb<\/strong>, who formed the band in the late 1950s and became disco era icons. The movie was part of the official selection for this year\u2019s Telluride Film Festival, and it is set to make its debut on HBO later this year. Get the details below.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart<\/strong><\/em> will be \u201cabout the legendary band who wrote more than 1,000 songs, including twenty number one hits throughout their career. The film chronicles the rise of the iconic group,\u201d which consisted of the trio of Gibb brothers, \u201ctheir music and [the band\u2019s] evolution over the years.\u201d
\nThis is the latest directorial effort from Frank Marshall, the acclaimed Oscar-winning filmmaker who\u2019s been involved with dozens of terrific mainstream American movies over the course of his long career. Paper Moon<\/em>. The Warriors<\/em>. Raiders of the Lost Ark<\/em>. Poltergeist<\/em>. Gremlins<\/em>. Back to the Future<\/em>. Who Framed Roger Rabbit<\/em>. The Bourne Identity<\/em>. Marshall was a part of them all, and now he\u2019s stepping into the director\u2019s chair for the first time since 2014 to chronicle the band behind songs like \u201cStayin\u2019 Alive,\u201d \u201cHow Deep is Your Love,\u201d \u201cI Started a Joke,\u201d \u201cYou Should Be Dancin\u2019,\u201d and \u201cJive Talkin\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike so many people, I\u2019ve loved the Bee Gees\u2019 music all my life,\u201d Marshall said in a press release. \u201cBut discovering their uncanny creative instincts and the treasure trove of music, their humor, and loyalty was a great two-year journey. We are very happ<\/a>y and proud to be with HBO, and it has been an honor to work on this project.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film is produced by Mark Monroe<\/strong> (Icarus<\/em>),\u00a0Jeanne Elfant Festa<\/strong>, and Nigel\u00a0Sinclair<\/strong> (The Beatles: Eight Days a Week<\/em>), the latter of whom described this movie as being about \u201chow three brothers with paramount musical gifts created music that touched the collective unconscious across five continents for five decades straight. It is brotherhood and family, creativity, entertainment, joy, and tragedy.\u00a0We all feel very privileged to be involved.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart<\/em> is set to premiere on HBO sometime in 2020<\/strong>, after which it will be available to stream on HBO Max.<\/p>\n
