\n Note to nostalgia hounds: The banana clip is back.<\/p>\n

Fashionistas and hypebeasts have tunneled their way through early aughts and \u201990s fashion trends over the past few years\u2014 think low-rise jeans<\/a>, Paul Frank tees and platform slides. But now they\u2019re starting to borrow from an earlier era: the 1980s. Shoulder pads, acid-wash denim \u2014 as seen on the newest American Girl Doll \u201chistorical character\u201c born in 1986 \u2014 and chunky jewelry are all a wink to that decade.<\/p>\n

But throwin\u2019 it back goes beyond duds, and into \u2018dos.<\/p>\n

The banana clip, a thin, curved double comb that hinges at the bottom and locks in a faux-hawk-meets-pony look has returned.<\/p>\n

\u201cBanana clip\u201d has seen a sharp search interest increase in the past 12 months according to Google Trends,<\/a> and clips in general<\/a> are getting more interest online. On Pinterest<\/a>, there\u2019s been a 105% search increase in the phrase \u201chow to style hair clips\u201d compared to this time last year.<\/p>\n

On social media, stans of the retro clip rejoiced as the accessory began trending again, as noticed by Southern Living<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never gave up on you, banana clip! Some people said you\u2019d never come back but I never doubted for a minute,\u201d wrote @sarahbessey on Twitter.<\/a><\/p>\n

The banana clip, a drugstore hair accessory-aisle staple, works by scooping up hair to create a cascading, waterfall effect that hides the clip itself in textured or curly hair.<\/p>\n

Expect to see the tress-tamer make an app<\/a>earance during Zoom meetings and grocery runs, breaking up a cycle of low ponies and high buns \u2014 the favored looks of working from home.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s call it a hair accessory revolution, joining the ranks of Insta-age revived barrettes, the headband, and her dramatic, padded-out cousin, the hatband, credited to Kate Middleton<\/a>. The pandemic saw bright, flashy hair pieces take a back seat behind sensible wares such as pony holders and claw clips \u2014 a \u201990s-era, low-maintenance, no-damage staple popularized by Jennifer Aniston in \u201cFriends,\u201d and spotted on the heads of trendy supermodels including Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner.<\/p>\n

At the very least, a banana clip can keep the results of botched at-home haircuts back of mind.<\/p>\n
