target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/rennyonline\/?hl=en\">Renny Conti<\/a>\u2019s most cherished moments are the ones where \u201cnothing is really h<a rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ening.\u201d On his new record\u2019s opening track \u201cSplit Second,\u201d he recounts one particular memory of feeling at peace while sitting at the pier: \u201cI sit and watch the boats sway in the pier \/ The city breathes the seasons in and out.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            \u201cI remember feeling calm and free,\u201d he says while nestled on a couch at The FADER office. \u201cThose [moments] feel increasingly rare.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Conti wrote his forthcoming album, <i>Split Second<\/i>, out  September 25 via Mom + Pop, while reeling from a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of life transformations and life-defining losses: the end of a major relationship and the death of his brother to addiction. He crystalizes such passing moments on the new record, taking a microscope to the mundane to find something resonant about love and loss. He began playing music with his brother in his adolescence with stints in different punk bands, but he found himself gravitating towards the solace of singer-songwriter music as he grew into young adulthood. He connected with the genre especially after transferring colleges from San Francisco State to NYU to study film. The city\u2019s re-cresting indie scene consistently pulled him away from film. \u201cI just made all these buddies and ended up playing a bunch of shows. [Music] became the center of what I was doing here,\u201d he says. \u201cShows kept popping up and people kept being like, \u2018Want to play?\u2019\u201d<br \/> \n          <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>\n            The pandemic allowed him further time to zero in on recording music at home. When the world began to open up in 2023, he was working part-time on film sets, but decided to pivot to food service to further commit to music. In 2025, he released his self-titled debut record which featured standouts like \u201cLooking at the Geese\u201d which shows off Conti\u2019s gravelly yet lilting voice and lyrics which hopscotch between poignant theses and stream-of-consciousness rambling. On it he sings about \u201cgetting caught up in the president\u2019s laugh,\u201d before tumbling into a meaningful moment with a lover: \u201cIt\u2019s 6 p.m. freezing and you\u2019re drawing a bath \/ This is our little prize.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-284567\" class=\"content_block paragraph embed triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Renny Conti - Looking at the Geese (Official Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0_0EmQxJpy4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-284568\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            The record garnered buzz in New York City\u2019s indie circles, leading to Conti booking a headlining show at Baby\u2019s All Right in January 2025 and then a rising dribble of label interest culminating in his signing to Mom + Pop (underscores, After, Magdalena Bay) in 2025.<br \/>On his new record, Conti continues to sharpen his lyrical pen and write movingly about the experience of contending with death. He does so with striking clarity on album single \u201cLeaving The Zoo,\u201d which is about the loss of his brother.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cThat song tries to capture both the experience of learning someone passed and then all the little fucking experiences you have reconciling and accepting that,\u201d he shares. The song speaks about death directly and in poetic terms. \u201cAnd while you are gone life is a chore,\u201d he sings. Like on album single and standout track \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ll--AR71fG8\">Mona Lisa<\/a>\u201d where Conti mixes meanings to dreamy effect: \u201cYou cut the lemon with the knife \/ I spent the night inside the forest of your life,\u201d he sings.
