Ternus took over as CEO on 1 September. He is on the cover of TIME\u2019s 2026 Best Inventions issue, which features the iPhone Duo.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe constraints in memory are absolutely a crisis.\u201d John Ternus, Apple CEO, to TIME<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In July, the Financial Times reported that Apple had begun testing memory chips from a Chinese company, TIME wrote. A bipartisan group of senators then wrote to Apple, arguing that this would imperil national security. The US government has also warned Apple off Chinese memory chips.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_foldable\"><\/span>The foldable<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ternus and five other engineers filed a patent application for foldable devices in 2011, according to TIME. He said the first foldables from other companies \u201cfelt kind of cheap and crappy\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999. Its hinge has more than 100 tiny precision parts, under a surface made from a custom polymer, TIME reported. Deliveries have already slipped into 2027.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"AI_and_the_%E2%80%98lunatic_fringe\"><\/span>AI and the \u2018lunatic fringe\u2019<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Apple\u2019s new Siri, launched in the US in September, uses an Apple model that draws on Google\u2019s Gemini <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>. Ternus rejected the idea that relying on a rival is a retreat from Apple making the whole product.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s not really a goal that we have to make every single thing in a product.\u201d John Ternus, to TIME<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Apple makes the parts where it can stand out, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He also said he does not see a scenario in which devices disappear, because \u201cpeople want physical things\u201d. Greg Joswiak, Apple\u2019s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, said Apple builds AI for everyday people. It is not aimed at Silicon Valley\u2019s \u201clunatic fringe\u201d, he said. On OpenAI\u2019s hardware plans, Joswiak said: \u201cWe don\u2019t feel threatened.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Washington_and_Tim_Cook\"><\/span>Washington and Tim Cook<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Ternus said he has met members of the Trump administration to make sure they are \u201cworking through things together\u201d.
