getting roasted online after suggesting it\u2019s \u201cquite terrible\u201d that ordinary people are using up the world\u2019s limited supply of computer memory instead of putting it to better use in the cloud.<\/p>\n<p>The Bay Area tech billionaire made the eyebrow-raising remarks during a recent interview with S<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>e President John Collison on his <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a> show, \u201cCheeky Pint,\u201d where the pair chat over beers with founders, builders and business leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Altman took issue with people using \u201ca bunch\u201d of the world\u2019s limited supply of DRAM, a type of memory commonly found in PCs, laptops, smartphones and tablets.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called it \u201cquite terrible\u201d for people to have DRAM on their personal computers. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The OpenAI chief argued that because the average person only uses their DRAM about 5% of the time, the world\u2019s supply should be put to maximum use \u2014 particularly in what he described as a \u201cvery supply constrained environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The comments quickly set off a RAMpage online, with viewers accusing Altman of suggesting that computer memory belongs in AI data centers rather than in the hands of everyday consumers.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Altman believes the average person\u2019s 5% usage is a far less beneficial use of the world\u2019s RAM supply. <span class=\"credit\">Alfik A \u2013 supply of DRAM being limited,\u201d one commenter wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe guy really went and basically openly said \u2018It\u2019s actually quite terrible that normal people have Ram in their computers because from my perspective it should all belong to me,&#8217;\u201d another comment read.<\/p>\n<p>Altman continued his RAMpage by adding that \u201csomehow, many people\u2019s intuition is CEO also used the conversation to tout his company\u2019s AI tools, arguing that people are increasingly willing to turn to artificial intelligence to improve the way they work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a culture where people, even if they\u2019ve done something the old-fashioned way for a long time, are super willing to try using AI to do it better,\u201d Altman said in the interview.<\/p>\n<figure power its artificial intelligence operations.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/7a3ad950-1b3b-4d9e-8c15-65a61ae6180f?syn-25a6b1a6=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times reported<\/a> Friday evening that OpenAI had slashed its fundraising target by $10 billion.
