“#Friends of wounded Louisville cop react to his shooting<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n A friend of Maj. Aubrey Gregory \u2014 one of the Louisville cops shot amid the protests over the Breonna Taylor indictment decision \u2014 said his \u201cheart definitely dropped\u201d when he heard about the incident, according to a report.<\/p>\n

Gregory, who was shot in the hip, received a standing ovation when he limped into a room at the station house on Thursday, while fellow officer Robinson Desroches remains hospitalized after being struck in the abdomen.<\/p>\n

One of Gregory\u2019s friends, George Rodman, feared the worst when he received word about the shooting, which brought back memories of when his son Nick was killed in the line of duty in 2017, according to WAVE 3 News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cGoing through what I\u2019ve gone through with my family, losing Nick, and still having a son in the department, yes my heart definitely dropped,\u201d Rodman told the station.<\/p>\n

\u201cI texted him last night. We talked a little bit, and the last text he sent was, \u2018I\u2019m going to be OK, and I can\u2019t wait to get back out there.\u2019 That\u2019s the kind of leader he is,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Another friend, Asia Ford, called Gregory her \u201chero.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWith everything going on in the city, unfortunately, the worst went through my mind,\u201d Ford told WAVE 3 News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think a lot of people, with everything going on, the turmoil, the hurt that the city is feeling with the Breonna Taylor case, I think that people should know who some of these police officers are,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you have a lot of police officers, like officer Gregory, who is not just out here trying to stir the pot. He\u2019s actually behind the badge because that\u2019s what his passion is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ford said she met Gregory in 2015, when she was struggling to finish a 10K race and was about to give up when Gregory came out of his patrol car, put his arm around her and led her to the finish line.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was at that moment where I was about to give up, and if it wasn\u2019t for him my son would\u2019ve saw me give up,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I\u2019m just thankful for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ford said she talked to Gregory on Thursday morning and returned the words of encouragement he had given her during the race.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was just really worried about how he was doing,\u201d she said. \u201cOnce he told me that he was doing good, I was able to breathe again. So he is doing good. He is in the healing process and I\u2019m just glad he\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

The officers\u2019 alleged shooter, Larynzo Johnson, 26, was charged Thursday with first-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
