city\u2019s Election Day remote-learning farce.<\/p>\n<p>Election Day has long been an NYC school holiday, but the Department of Education this year opted to make it a mandatory remote session, taking many families by surprise and giving kids only a remote chance of learning anything, even without the technical glitches.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s pretty obvious the DOE just wanted to be able to count it toward the state\u2019s required 180 instructional days without actually having to instruct much.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s committed to observing ever-more holidays for different faiths and so on, while the teachers\u2019 contract mandates an absurd number of no-school day for \u201cteacher training,\u201d so the educrats decided to just short change the kids.<\/p>\n<p>Virtual school is virtually useless, and few DOE schools even try to make it work, let alone do a thing about the many kids who don\u2019t even bother to log in, skipping to pig out on Halloween candy.<\/p>\n<aside Zohran Mamdani <em>claims <\/em>that supporting child care is a top priority.<\/p>\n<p>In six years since remote school \u201cwork\u201d started in the pandemic, the DOE hasn\u2019t remotely figured out how to make it work to engage students an entire 6-hour school day; the educrats just <em>talk <\/em>about it succeeding, without offering a whit of proof.<\/p>\n<p>Cut some other school-closed
