“#Hudson Yards’ Edge yoga by Equinox is an elevated outdoor class<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Don\u2019t look downward dog!<\/p>\n

Yogis can now get bendy 100 stories up in the air as part of a new soaring series<\/a> of classes offered at the Hudson Yards skyscraper, Edge.<\/p>\n

The observation deck \u2014 known as the highest outdoor platform in the Western hemisphere \u2014 teamed up with luxury fitness club, Equinox, to offer yogis the chance to salute the sun for $50 a class.<\/p>\n

The rooftop series, which launched on Sept. 18 and is New York City\u2019s most elevated yoga offering, is open to the public \u2014 no Equinox membership required! It\u2019s already sold out of several hourlong sessions so far, and has visitors flooding Instagram with eye-popping photos of 360-degree views of the city.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt almost felt like we were flying above the city while doing the asanas,\u201d said Verena Erhart. \u201cWhile I am not a big yogi, it was a very rewarding class with a great instructor and obviously, the view can\u2019t be beat.\u201d<\/p>\n

But there was a limit for Erhart, 40, who said a triangular glass floor area on the deck \u2014 which displays a dizzying direct view of the space below \u2014 was a bit too stomach churning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThankfully, I was quite far from the glass-floor section,\u201d said the Crown Heights resident, who leads vegan food and beer tours and attended the 9 a.m. class on Sept. 23. \u201cI did think to myself that doing a bootcamp or any other high-impact class would feel quite weird [up here].\u201d<\/p>\n

Yoga instructor Rika Henry added that in her four years of teaching in the Big App<\/a>le, she\u2019s never experienced anything quite like this.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exhilarating, especially [while] upside down,\u201d she said. \u201cWith the city in full view, all I can think about is, \u2018I love New York.\u2019\u2009\u201d<\/p>\n

Steve Fortner \u2014 who also gave the vinyasa yoga class a try on Wednesday \u2014 said watching the sun rise from such great heights was \u201creally breathtaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI could see a fully round sunrise with a slickly orange-and-pink haze to the background of the building,\u201d the 39-year-old Chelsea resident said. \u201cRelaxing music was playing, and I was fully Zen.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it wasn\u2019t just the views that reeled Fortner in. \u201cI really missed group fitness,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

After COVID-19 hit, gyms and fitness centers were shut down until this month when they were allowed to reopen at 33 percent capacity with strict mask requirements.<\/p>\n

Equinox and Edge \u2014 which only just opened in March 2020, right before lockdown forced the deck to close a few weeks later \u2014 also implemented coronavirus regulations, requiring all yogis to sign a printed health declaration, be temperature-checked at the door and to wear masks at all times, except while social<\/a>ly distanced on their mats.<\/p>\n

Upcoming classes are posted every Friday at noon, <\/a>and yogis can reserve a spot on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are just 35 slots for each class, allowing students to spread out safely on the 1,100 square feet of space on the deck.<\/p>\n

Just be sure to namaste away from the ledge.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
