\n America needs a leader \u201cThat\u2019s gonna work his ass off,\u201d an upbeat President Trump boasted Friday night, earning laughs at a Virginia campaign rally by chiding \u201cSleepy Joe\u201d for always going to bed early.<\/p>\n

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden routinely calls early \u201clids\u201d that indicate to reporters no more campaign events are planned, Trump joked.<\/p>\n

The president told a roaring crowd in Newport News<\/a> that he, by contrast, powers through jam-packed days of events.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got a guy, he stays in his basement all day long and I\u2019m doing this,\u201d Trump said during the hour-long speech, which followed earlier Friday campaign events in Miami, Atlanta and Washington, DC.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know. If he wins, I\u2019m gonna be very embarrassed. I\u2019ll say, \u2018Gee, I worked so hard, and he didn\u2019t work at all,’\u201d Trump said to wild cheers.<\/p>\n

Trump said Biden\u2019s regular morning press coverage \u201clids\u201d suggest a lazy candidate.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow can we have Joe Biden representing this country? And you know he\u2019s on the lid, you know the lid right? The lid is when they say, \u2018We\u2019re gonna put a lid on it,’\u201d Trump explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an expression. And every day early in the morning, they say, \u2018Joe, I mean Joe Biden, Sleepy Joe, he\u2019s put a lid on it.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Sir, Biden has put a lid on it. What does that mean?\u2019 That means he\u2019s not working today.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis guy takes four days off. You have to have a president that\u2019s gonna work his ass off for this country. You need a very energetic president.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s campaign called an early-afternoon lid \u2014 at 1:02 p.m. \u2014 on Friday after visiting Washington for an event honoring the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Biden\u2019s team declared a lid at 9:20 a.m.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday a lid came at 8:04 pm after a day trip<\/a> to North Carolina. But on Tuesday there was another early-morning lid at 9:22 am.<\/p>\n

Trump said that by contrast, he woke up at 6 a.m. in Florida Friday before crisscrossing the country ahead of the 9 p.m. rally.<\/p>\n

Trump addressed Latino supporters in Florida at 11 a.m. and black supporters in Georgia around 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

He hosted a closed-press roundtable at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, DC, around 6 p.m. before flying to Virginia.<\/p>\n

\u201cI woke up at six in the morning. I read some papers. I read the fake news, and then I was in Florida early in the morning and then I went to Florida and we did a big round table with the Hispanics \u2014 they were great,\u201d he crowed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then we flew to Atlanta,\u201d he recounted.<\/p>\n

\u201cThen we flew to Washington, where we had a round table.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then I say, \u2018Well, that\u2019s it for the night, right?’\u201d<\/p>\n

No, he told the crowd \u2014 he kept going.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018Where are we going tonight?\u2019 I said, \u2018Let\u2019s go back to the White House, let\u2019s see our first lady.\u2019 And they said, \u2018No, sir, you have a rally scheduled.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The president was scheduled to return to the White House slightly before midnight Friday.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, he will announce a Supreme Court nominee at 5 p.m., then hold an evening rally Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love you people, but I\u2019ve been doing this since early in the morning. I\u2019m getting the hell out of here,\u201d Trump joked as he wrapp<\/a>ed the rally up.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
