“#NY’s leaders should join Trump in rejecting \u2018critical race theory\u2019<\/strong>”

\n President Trump\u2019s pushback against \u201ccritical race theory\u201d can help unite the nation and reclaim its core values. Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio would be wise to join him \u2014 but that\u2019s unlikely.<\/p>\n

Last week, Trump banned people and firms doing business with the government from conducting training based on this odious race- and sex-based ideology. That came just weeks after he banned its use by federal agencies and after reports by Christopher Rufo, including in The Post, exposing it. Kudos to Trump.<\/p>\n

The theory conflicts with basic American values, especially the ideal of a race- and sex-blind society, as it openly embraces anti-white bigotry. It is \u201crooted in the pernicious and false belief\u201d that America is \u201cirredeemably racist and sexist,\u201d that people are automatically \u201coppressors\u201d simply on account of race or sex and that \u201cracial and sexual identities\u201d define us, Trump notes.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s meant to prevent Americans from uniting, and it \u201cthreatens to infect core institutions of our country,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n

CRT and \u201cdiversity training\u201d that\u2019s based on it (a lot, sadly) actually teach that non-minorities are inherently racist, and men sexist. A Treasury seminar, for instance, pushed the claim that nearly all whites \u201ccontribute\u201d to racism.<\/p>\n

Make no mistake: These are dangerous, anti-American views. They feed an exaggerated sense of victimhood that fuels riots and violence in the name of anti-bias.<\/p>\n

Alas, in New York, this garbage has been pushed hard by schools Chancellor Richard Carranza. He aggressively targeted what he bizarrely views as a \u201cwhite-supremacy culture\u201d at the Department of Education \u2014 which would be laughable if it weren\u2019t so offensive, given the lifelong liberalism of most DOE officials. Yet staffers have reported firings or demotions of whites based on their race, as The Post reported last year.<\/p>\n

More, he\u2019s launched pricey \u201canti-bias\u201d training programs that do exactly what Trump fears. \u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of discussion\u201d of how white supremacy \u201cmanifests in the workplace,\u201d one official noted. It\u2019s said to be \u201ccharacterized by perfectionism, a belief in meritocracy and the Protestant work ethic.\u201d Whites who deny their deep-rooted bias are called \u201cfragile\u201d and \u201cdefensive.\u201d<\/p>\n

A slide in one session ID\u2019d hallmarks of white supremacy that administrators need to avoid, including (ironically for educators) ideas like \u201cobjectivity\u201d and \u201cworship of the written word.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even the coronavirus didn\u2019t stop this absurd worse-than-waste of taxpayer dollars: Carranza just moved the training online.<\/p>\n

This, incidentally, is important context for Carranza\u2019s (and Mayor de Blasio\u2019s) drive to weaken merit-based admissions to the city\u2019s top high schools: Bigotry of some kind has to be behind everything, even when they can\u2019t point to any actual bias in the race-blind exams.<\/p>\n

Cuomo has also fueled the distorted notion that US institutions are racist, with incendiary remarks on the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor tarring America\u2019s criminal-justice system.<\/p>\n

He and de Blasio are inflicting untold damage. Yes, racism exists and needs to be fought \u2014 but not with equally pernicious idiocy.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
