\n Steven Avery, the subject of true-crime series<\/a> \u201cMaking a Murderer,\u201d has tested positive for coronavirus, his lawyer said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cSteven Avery has tested positive for COVID-19, and is confined to his cell,\u201d tweeted Jerome Buting, Avery\u2019s former criminal defense attorney.<\/p>\n

Buting said his client\u2019s ex-fiancee, Sandy Greenman, reports Avery\u2019s symptoms were \u201cshort-lived\u201d and that he\u2019s in \u201cgood spirits.\u201d<\/p>\n

Avery, 57, is serving life sentence without parole for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach in Wisconsin. His case received worldwide attention with the 2015 hit Netflix documentary \u201cMaking a Murderer\u201d which examined whether Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey was wrongfully convicted.<\/p>\n

Buting and lawyer Dean Strang have both argued that Avery and Dassey are innocent.<\/p>\n

The two no longer represent Avery, TMZ reported, but his new lawyer, Kathleen Zellner is working on an app<\/a>eal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is true that Steven Avery has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus \u2014he will fully recover,\u201d Zellner tweeted. \u201cThe bigger threat to him is whether the COA [Court of Appeals] will cure the disease that caused him to be wrongfully convicted.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
