\n Sen. Lindsey Graham, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Sunday that an escalated timeline for Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett will allow for a vote before Halloween \u2014 as a number of lawmakers said her confirmation is all but assured.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we\u2019ll start on Oct. 12, and more than half of the Supreme Court justices who have had hearings were done within 16 days or less,\u201d Graham said on Fox News<\/a>\u2019 \u201cSunday Morning Futures.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll have a day of introduction. We\u2019ll have two days of questioning, Tuesday and Wednesday, and on the 15th we\u2019ll begin to markup, we\u2019ll hold it over for a week, and we\u2019ll report her nomination out of the committee on Oct. 22.\u201d<\/p>\n

At that point, the Republican from South Carolina said, it would be up to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell \u201cas to what to do with the nomination once it comes out of committee.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump announced Barrett\u2019s nomination to the court to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg during a White House ceremony on Saturday \u2014 a week and a day after the liberal icon\u2019s death at the age of 87.<\/p>\n

Republicans in the Senate said they expect Barrett to be confirmed by election day, Nov. 3.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I\u2019ve said was, this needs to take all the time it needs to take, but it doesn\u2019t need to take more time than it needs to take,\u201d Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) said on NBC News\u2019 \u201cMeet the Press.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd he\u2019s laid out a plan that I think meets all the standards of past hearings and could be done before Election Day. If for some reason it\u2019s not done, we\u2019ll do it after Election Day, but I think we\u2019re likely to get this done sometime in the month of October.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana also predicted confirmation by November and shrugged off criticism from Democrats that McConnell blocked President Barack Obama\u2019s nomination of Merrick Garland in 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere\u2019s \u2014 as best as I can tell \u2013 here\u2019s the rule: when the Democrats are in charge of the process, they do what they think is right consistent with the Constitution; when the Republicans are in charge of the process, they do what they think is right,\u201d he said on \u201cFox News Sunday.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI think our founders intended elections to have consequences, and when they send people to Washington of a particular party they expect them to represent their voters,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) admitted that Democrats have little power to disrupt the confirmation process in the Republican-controlled Senate.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe could slow it down perhaps a matter of hours, maybe days at the most, but we can\u2019t stop the outcome,\u201d he said on ABC News\u2019 \u201cThis Week.\u201d<\/a> \u201cWhat we should do is to address this now respectfully.\u201d\n <\/div>\n
