\n There\u2019s a fire in Adam Gase\u2019s kitchen right now and \u2014 after Sunday\u2019s 36-7 blowout loss to the Colts in Indianapolis \u2014 some of his players did their best to try to extinguish the flames.<\/p>\n

With every loss, the status of their embattled head coach becomes more tenuous. On Sunday, Jets players insisted the problem is them, not Gase.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe in Adam,\u2019\u2019 Jets guard Greg Van Roten said. \u201cI\u2019m happ<\/a>y to be there. I heard nothing but good things [about Gase] before I got here. I\u2019ve been around him for a long time, these last couple months, and I\u2019m excited to play for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know anything about his job, I just know that the game<\/a> plans are not the issue. It\u2019s the execution of the team. That\u2019s the issue. It\u2019s not like guys don\u2019t know what to do. We know what to do; we\u2019re just not doing it. That\u2019s why it\u2019s so frustrating.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not like, \u2018Hey, we weren\u2019t ready for this, we didn\u2019t\u2019 know they were going to do that,\u2019 or \u2018I don\u2019t believe in this coach.\u2019 \u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Gase\u2019s Jets are 0-3 and have been outscored 94-37. This comes after his first season with the team, in 2019, when the Jets started 1-7 and finished 7-9.<\/p>\n

Before the Jets game Sunday, ESPN\u2019s Chris Mortensen reported that \u201cexecutives of the Jets at the highest levels\u2019\u2019 were going to monitor Sunday\u2019s game against the Colts and Thursday night\u2019s home game against the winless Broncos and he implied that they would evaluate whether to retain Gase or fire him.<\/p>\n

After the game, quarterback Sam Darnold didn\u2019t want to hear about this mess being Gase\u2019s fault.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been putting in \u2026 I truly believe this and the guys in the locker room feel the same way \u2026 we\u2019ve been put in great positions to go out there and succeed, to go out there and make plays and execute a game plan that\u2019s put together perfectly for us,\u2019\u2019 Darnold said. \u201cIt\u2019s just about us going out there and executing. That\u2019s it. I\u2019ve just got to execute the play that\u2019s called.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Darnold threw three interceptions on Sunday, two of which were returned for TDs and one of which was picked off in the end zone.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo the fans that are calling for [Gase\u2019s] his head, I never really understood that,\u2019\u2019 Van Roten said. \u201cI was on a team last year [the Panthers], we fired our coach [Ron Rivera] and it\u2019s not like we started winning games (Carolina lost its final four games after Rivera was fired). You go further in the tank. So, I\u2019m not really sure what that solves.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I get the frustration. I understand that. No one outside of our facility believes in us right now, and that\u2019s just kind of how things are going. So we need to rally together as a team.\u2019\u2019\n <\/p><\/div>\n
