“#Indiana Jones 5 Script<\/a> Disagreements Led to Steven Spielberg Exit \u2013 \/Film<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

It\u2019s hard to imagine an\u00a0Indiana Jones<\/em><\/strong> movie without Steven Spielberg<\/strong> at the helm, but that\u2019s what we\u2019re going to get with\u00a0Indiana Jones 5<\/em><\/strong>, which will be directed and written by\u00a0Logan<\/em>\u2018s James Mangold. The film went through several drafts and screenwriters before initial screenwriter\u00a0David Koepp<\/strong> finally exited the project alongside Spielberg. And the delays on the film can be attributed to the disagreements Spielberg, Ford, and Disney had over that constantly-changing script.<\/p>\n

In an\u00a0interview with Den of Geek<\/a>, screenwriter David Koepp, who left\u00a0Indiana Jones 5<\/em> around the same time as Spielberg,\u00a0explained why their version of the film fell apart.<\/p>\n

\u201cI tried a couple different versions with Steven and they all had some good stuff about them and they all had some stuff that didn\u2019t work, which happens. But it was just very hard to have everybody come together and have all the elements \u2014 Steven, Harrison (Ford), the script and Disney \u2014 come together at once. And it didn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Koepp wouldn\u2019t go into details about what those script disagreements were, but it seems like none of the parties involved could agree on the direction to take the movie. It\u2019s a problem that has been plaguing\u00a0Indiana Jones 5<\/em> since it was announced all the way back in 2016. When the project was first announced by Lucasfilm,\u00a0Koepp was on board to handle the script. Then, word surfaced that\u00a0Jonathan Kasdan<\/strong>\u00a0(Solo: A Star Wars Story<\/em>) and\u00a0Dan Fogelman<\/strong>\u00a0(This Is Us<\/em>,\u00a0Tangled<\/em>) would both be working on the script.\u00a0Then, Koepp took over again, with the writer\u00a0stating in September of last year, \u201cI\u2019m working on it again. We\u2019re still trying. And I think we\u2019ve got a good idea this time. We\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n

But script problems kept cropping up, with Ford even commenting on the\u00a0script issues\u00a0in February of this year. Finally, Spielberg and Koepp parted ways with the project, handing the movie over\u00a0to\u00a0Ford v Ferrari<\/em>\u00a0director James Mangold. But the exit seemed to be mutual for all parties involved, as Koepp only wishes the best for Mangold.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cWhen James Mangold came in and Steven stepped out, that was a pretty logical breaking point,\u201d Koepp told Den of Geek. \u201cIt\u2019s a gracious time to step out the door because I think the last thing a new director wants is the old director\u2019s writer. I mean, that\u2019s a drag. The last thing you need is some guy sitting around with his arms folded saying, \u2018Well, the way Steven would have done it is\u2026\u2019 I had one nice friendly conversation with him and then I\u2019m sure he wanted to be able to move on anyway. Everybody was pretty polite, I thought.\u201d\n<\/div>\n

For now,\u00a0Indiana Jones 5<\/em>\u00a0is set to open\u00a0July\u00a029,\u00a02022<\/strong>.
