\nDax Shepard<\/strong> is on the road to recovery.<\/p>\n

Shortly after celebrating 16 years of sobriety, the actor revealed last week that he had succumbed to opioid addiction after being prescribed painkillers for his recent motorcycle accident. He shared the news<\/a> on an episode of his Armchair Expert<\/em> podcast titled \u201cDay 7,\u201d marking a full week of sobriety.<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s episode of the popular pod, Shepard prefaced his interview with Sofia Coppola<\/strong> with some gratitude for the public reaction to his confession. He said:<\/p>\n

\u201cJust quickly, I want to say thanks to all the people that have been so unbelievably lovely to us in response to \u2018Day 7.’\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Co-host Monica Padman<\/strong>, who played a major role in his story of relapse and recovery, told Dax:<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope you felt loved and supported and that your fears were abated.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He replied:<\/p>\n

\u201cMy fears were the opposite of what the result was, yeah. But yeah, struggling with some fraudulent feelings of receiving love based on a f**k up. But, at any rate, I am really, really grateful, and there\u2019s so many beautiful, nice people.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Parenthood<\/em> star expressed a few of his anxieties about coming forward during his last episode. One worry was that his wife Kristen Bell<\/strong> would have to answer for his addiction in every interview \u201cfor the next 6 months.\u201d He also struggled with his position as a role model for other addicts who might have been discouraged to hear about his backslide.<\/p>\n

However, we imagine that knowing even a celeb like Dax can get knocked off the course \u2014 and, crucially, get back on again \u2014 could be a great comfort to others who struggle with addiction. On \u201cDay 7,\u201d the 45-year-old explained:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor\u2026a long time, I\u2019ve known intellectually that things are going to get worse. That each encounter with it had gotten more shady and more dangerous and I recognize that the next go-around would be, \u2018Oh I can\u2019t get pills. Let\u2019s snort heroin.\u2019 And you know, I\u2019ve had a lot of friends that I\u2019ve watched go through this whole cycle, and I finally have the humility to say I will not be any different. I won\u2019t be special. I won\u2019t be smarter. I will be exactly like everyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Dax did make one clarification on Monday\u2019s episode. He shared:<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, I gotta add one more thing. I was not high when I shaved my head. That was day two. \u2026 A lot of people said, \u2018I could see you were high as a kite.\u2019 I actually was not. I was having a metamorphosis, a transitional \u2014 I wanted to make a physical statement that I was shedding something.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We love the video of the Punk\u2019d<\/em> alum shaving his head in solidarity with his daughter \u2014 we hope it brought him the catharsis he desired! We\u2019re wishing him the best of luck on his renewed journey to sobriety.<\/p>\n
