This array first recorded limited data from the M87 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"av ih ii ij ik il\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-cosmic-companion\/more-strange-objects-seen-near-black-hole-at-center-of-milky-way-afbbcf460f24?source=friends_link&amp;sk=06921e57891d2da9bf98dc7168b2dacf\">black hole<\/a> in 2009, and other images were collected through 2013.<\/p>\n<p data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><em>[Read: <span class=\"c-message_attachment__title\"><span dir=\"auto\">Are EVs too expensive? This required researchers to use statistical and geometrical modeling to fill in some gaps in the archival data.<\/p>\n<p id=\"38c8\" class=\"fc fd cp cq b fe ha ff fg fh hb fi fj fk hc fl fm fn hd fo fp fq he fr fs fu ch dh\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The analysis revealed the black hole in M 87 behaves exactly as theoretical physics predicted for a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"av ih ii ij ik il\" href=\"https:\/\/thecosmiccompanion.net\/christopher-berry-intermediate-mass-black-hole\/\">black hole<\/a> of 6.5 billion solar masses.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"ie if ig\">\n<p id=\"0451\" class=\"fc fd fw cq b fe ha ff fg fh hb fi fj fk hc fl fm fn hd fo fp fq he fr fs fu ch dh\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">\u201cDo you realize that if you fall into a black hole, you will see the entire future of the Universe unfold in front of you in a matter of moments and you will emerge into another space-time created by the singularity of the black hole you just fell into?\u201d Neil deGrasse Tyson<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"3d5f\" class=\"fc fd cp cq b fe ha ff fg fh hb fi fj fk hc fl fm fn hd fo fp fq he fr fs fu ch dh\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">While the size of the ring remains constant, fine details in the ring, as well as its orientation, change over a period of several years. Studying these changes can help astronomers learn more about the changing shape of the accretion ring surrounding the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"av ih ii ij ik il\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-cosmic-companion\/the-best-picture-ever-of-the-black-hole-next-door-fd9f67b3218a?source=friends_link&amp;sk=77926053f952c4548089bca786141c0d\">black hole<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Wobbling Shadow of the M87* Black Hole\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v_Bk2997YMA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p id=\"60f9\" class=\"fc fd cp cq b fe ha ff fg fh hb fi fj fk hc fl fm fn hd fo fp fq he fr fs fu ch dh\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Future studies will provide greater detail in our knowledge of the black holes near the center of the massive galaxy, as well as its innermost jet.<\/p>\n<p id=\"7ff7\" class=\"fc fd cp cq b fe ha ff fg fh hb fi fj fk hc fl fm fn hd fo fp fq he fr fs fu ch dh\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">\u201cThe monitoring of the time variable structure of M87 with the EHT is a challenge that will keep us busy over the next few years.
