\n \u201cCake Boss\u201d star Buddy Valastro is on the mend after mangling his hand in an accident at his home bowling alley, but there\u2019s a long road ahead of him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI guess [I feel] as good as I can with the situation,\u201d Valastro said on the \u201cToday\u201d show<\/a> Monday morning. \u201cIt\u2019s just a real freak accident, and it was crazy just the way it went down, but I\u2019m really so proud of my sons and my brothers-in-law who really helped and jumped into action to help set me free and help put me on the road to recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Valastro, 43, detailed that his hand had gotten stuck in a pin-setting machine at his in-home bowling alley when a rod pierced through his right hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just blew out half my hand,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2026 I screamed and my sons came back \u2026 I have no idea what kept me calm,\u201d he recalled of the terrifying ordeal. \u201cI thought I was going to faint. \u2026 Something told me to stay calm, and I told my sons, \u2018You gotta get me off this machine.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Valastro\u2019s teenage son Buddy Jr. app<\/a>eared next to his dad during the interview and shared the scary moment he had to help free him from the machine.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew I had to do something,\u201d Buddy Jr. said.<\/p>\n

The Carlo\u2019s Bakery owner said after two surgeries, his recovery remains an \u201cuphill battle,\u201d but he is thankful for all the prayers from fans who are hoping he can return to baking soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt makes me want to fight to get better for them,\u201d Valastro said. \u201cIt makes me want to be the man that I was.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of his hero boy, a teary-eyed Valastro said, \u201cI\u2019m so proud of my son.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
