Taking Over as &#8216;DWTS&#8217; Host<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>Imitation truly is the highest form of flattery.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tvinsider.com\/people\/maya-rudolph\">Maya Rudolph<\/a> is coming back to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tvinsider.com\/show\/saturday-night-live\"><em>Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/a> this fall to impersonate Democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris, but <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tvinsider.com\/people\/tyra-banks\">Tyra Banks<\/a>, who has been spoofed by Rudolph before on the late-night variety show, is hoping that the Emmy-winning actress will don some sequins and spoof her latest gig \u2014 host of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tvinsider.com\/show\/dancing-with-the-stars\"><em>Dancing With the Stars<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Banks spoke with TV Insider and a small group of reporters after <em>DWTS<\/em>&#8216; Disney Night episode on September 28, which saw the judges save actress Anne Heche and pro partner Keo Motsepe, sending Carole Baskin (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tvinsider.com\/show\/tiger-king\"><em>Tiger King<\/em><\/a>) and partner Pasha Pashkov packing.<\/p>\n<p>Below, Banks weighs in on how her hosting gig is going, what it\u2019ll feel like to crown a Mirror Ball champion, future <em>SNL<\/em> spoofs, and more.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"On_why_there_was_an_elimination_on_Disney_Night_which_is_unusual_for_the_show\"><\/span><strong>On why there was an elimination on Disney Night, which is unusual for the show<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t have anything to do with that decision. The producing team informed me of that. I thought, \u2018Wow, people [might be assuming] that no one would go home this week,\u2019 but they decided that someone would.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"On_getting_into_a_groove_as_the_shows_host\"><\/span><strong>On getting into a groove as the show\u2019s host <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThe first week, there\u2019s a lot of choreography that [had] to go on. There\u2019s a lot of what we call \u2018cueing yourself,\u2019 meaning that the director doesn\u2019t tell me to go or to speak. So, I walk out on stage and just feel a lot of things naturally. People don\u2019t see that the director and different producers\u2026are in my ears, telling me, \u2018Cut them off! Judges are talking too long! We\u2019ve got to get to a commercial! We\u2019ve got to go\u2026!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so much h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ening. And there\u2019s a TelePrompTer and a cue card. It\u2019s a lot so that first week, I was very nervous. And I don\u2019t normally get nervous [but] it\u2019s a new job\u2026the second week, I wasn\u2019t nervous at all. I felt good. I was chilling. And then, third week I\u2019m nervous again because it\u2019s Disney [week] and I grew up with Disney \u2013 the Main Street Electrical Parade. I was nervous again. So, I walked out there and said, \u2018Welcome to Disney Week,\u2019 and my heart was [beating fast]\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"On_who_her_mom_is_rooting_for\"><\/span><strong>On who her mom is rooting for<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cMy momma loves Justina Machado (<em>One Day at a Time<\/em>). She loves some curves and, whoa! She can move! It\u2019s going to sound weird. I kind of forget that we send people home each week. Of course, <em>Dancing With the Stars<\/em> does that! Of <em>course<\/em>! But I just get so caught up with the pro dancers and the stars and that we are all so close [even with] <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a>-distancing. I\u2019m like damn! [Each elimination] is a reminder that someone\u2019s going to be going home. You know what\u2019s going to be <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>ping me in about three weeks? It\u2019s that three [couples] that I think are amazing and are really good dancers are going to go home! I\u2019m either going to be going to bed pissed that night or I\u2019ll feel that it was their time, but I\u2019ll still feel sad.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"On_being_an_emotional_buffer_between_the_competitors_and_the_judges\"><\/span><strong>On being an emotional buffer between the competitors and the judges<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cYeah. I think it is important for me to be that. It\u2019s important for the judges to be as honest as possible because their honesty also helps the stars get better the next week. But that\u2019s not my job. My job is to comfort them and to remind that they\u2019ve come a long way. I\u2019ve been on both sides of it. I was a model and was judged constantly. I was told I wasn\u2019t good enough. Then, I was a judge for many years on my show <em>America\u2019s Next Top Model <\/em>and I had to tell these models how to get better each week.<\/p>\n<p>I think it\u2019s important for my role here on <em>Dancing With the Stars <\/em>to be the cheerleader, to be that that sister, the god-mom [and] say you did your thing. It\u2019s going to be okay. Now, go and relax and we\u2019ll figure this out.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"On_being_spoofed_on_Saturday_Night_Live\"><\/span><strong>On being spoofed on <em>Saturday Night Live<\/em><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was spoofed on <em>Saturday Night Live <\/em>[in 2005], we damn near had a party for <em>America\u2019s Next Top Model<\/em>. We had arrived because we had been on <em>SNL<\/em>! I am hoping and <em>praying<\/em> I get spoofed on <em>Saturday Night Live<\/em> as the host of <em>Dancing With the Stars. <\/em>Maya, please, honey\u2026<em>please<\/em>. I don\u2019t know what you\u2019re going to do, but you need to do me. Just exaggerate me and make me want to hide because I\u2019ll be embarrassed but I\u2019ll be flattered at the same time. That\u2019s what it feels like \u2013 you\u2019re embarrassed but flattered\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"On_the_challenges_of_taking_over_for_host_Tom_Bergeron\"><\/span><strong>On the challenges of taking over for host Tom Bergeron<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always challenging when you step into something. At the same time, I knew what I was getting into. The network asked me to do this. I said yes. You do know when you\u2019re stepping into something new, people are like, \u2018I want what I\u2019m used to,\u2019 but at the same time, our ratings are up 38 percent, which are unprecedented crazy numbers! That\u2019s the validation [that] we\u2019re doing something right. It\u2019s not just me &#8212; it\u2019s the cast, it\u2019s the judges, it\u2019s this next level producing that\u2019s created this beautiful thing that more people than ever are watching.
