Our original post from July 2018 follows.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Monster Squad<\/em><\/strong> is a bonafide cult hit, the type of film that floundered at the box office when it first arrived, only to grow a devoted following over the years. Now the film is getting the documentary treatment with\u00a0<em>Wolfman\u2019s Got Nards<\/em>, a film that explores how the horror-comedy became a cult sensation. Watch the\u00a0<em>Wolfman\u2019s Got Nards<\/em> trailer below.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Wolfmans_Got_Nards_Trailer\"><\/span><strong>Wolfman\u2019s Got Nards Trailer<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post --><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Wolfman&#039;s Got Nards: a Documentary - Official Trailer\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pouwH2zbkMc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Many people my age herald\u00a0<em>The Goonies<\/em> as their go-to childhood cult classic. Me, I was never a\u00a0<em>Goonies<\/em> fan. Instead, I cherished\u00a0<em>The Monster Squad<\/em>, a 1987 horror-comedy directed by\u00a0<strong>Fred Dekke<\/strong>r with a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> by Dekker and <strong>Shane Black<\/strong>. I was a big Universal Monsters fan as a kid, so the prospect of seeing all those classic monsters together again, battling a group of kids about my age, was a dream come true.\u00a0But\u00a0<em>The Monster Squad<\/em> was not a hit in 1987. Audiences avoided the flick, and it faded into obscurity. In the years to come, however, it began to obtain cult notoriety. A fandom grew, and after years of high demand and bootlegs, the film finally hit DVD (and eventually Blu-ray).<\/p>\n<p>Now a new documentary chronicles the strange cult legacy of the film. That doc is\u00a0<em>Wolfman\u2019s Got Nards<\/em>, a title referencing one of the most famous quotes from the film. The doc features interviews with the cast and grew as well as the fans who helped turn\u00a0<em>The Monster Squad<\/em> into the cult phenomenon it is today. Based on the trailer, the film seems to be more hagiography than anything else, but I\u2019m not complaining. As a fan of\u00a0<em>The Monster Squad<\/em>, I\u2019m very interested in seeing this thing.<\/p>\n<p><em>Wolfman\u2019s Got Nards<\/em> comes from director\u00a0<strong>Andre Gower<\/strong>, who was actually in\u00a0<em>The Monster Squad<\/em> \u2013 he played Sean, the leader of the Squad. \u201cI think [the film has such a following because of ] the heart and the authenticity of Fred and Shane\u2019s script,\u201d Gower told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ew.com\/movies\/2018\/06\/28\/wolfmans-got-nards-trailer-monster-squad-documentary\/\">EW<\/a>, \u201cand what Fred put on screen, ultimately connected with these kids and\/or young adults whenever they saw it, because we have plenty of diehard fans that didn\u2019t see it until their 20s,\u201d he says. \u201cBut somehow they related with one or more of the characters said, \u2018Hey,\u00a0<em>that\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0me.\u2019 It just connected with them, and it never untethered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Wolfman\u2019s Got Nards<\/em> is currently on the film festival circuit. There\u2019s no official release date yet, but hopefully it can land a distributor to take care of that soon.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 --><em>WOLFMAN\u2019S GOT NARDS<\/em>\u00a0explores the relationship a dedicated audience (including celebrities and filmmakers) has with\u00a0<em>The Monster Squad<\/em>.
