Democratic-run states got nearly twice as much aid per capita as GOP-run ones yet continued to suffer higher \u00adunemployment. \u201cEarnings dropped most in states like New York (36.8 percent), New Jersey (31.5 percent), California (30.8 percent).\u201d Notably, \u201cstate and local government accounted for less than 10 percent of the earnings declines\u201d in these states, which crushed their economies and are now demanding more relief. \u201cThe economic intelligentsia is warning that the recovery will run out of steam without another multitrillion-dollar relief package, but then why are states that received more government largesse\u201d doing \u201cso much worse economically?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Foreign desk: The Epochal Israel-UAE Treaty<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the \u201crelentless\u201d media criticism of the Israel-United Arab Emirates treaty, the monumental step \u201ccommits the two countries to a relationship far warmer \u2014 and with far more intensive cooperation in economic, scientific and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> fields \u2014 than the cold peace Israel has with Egypt and Jordan,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nationalinterest.org\/blog\/middle-east-watch\/uae-israel-treaty-far-larger-step-towards-peace-critics-allege-169567\">argues Orde Kittrie at The National Interest<\/a>. By vowing \u201cfull normalization,\u201d the treaty \u201cseeks to expand the pie, transforming Arab-Israeli relations from the current zero-sum conflict into win-win cooperation to achieve mutually beneficial peace and prosperity\u201d \u2014 a \u201cstark contrast\u201d to the previous dynamic. The \u201centire region would benefit from following the UAE\u2019s lead and transforming Arab-Israeli relations from unproductive conflict to fruitful cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prof: My School Demands That I Lie<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/opinion\/civil-rights\/518531-the-truth-about-my-stand-against-a-universitys-enforced-orthodoxy\">Nicholas Meriwether explains at The Hill<\/a> that he sought a civil compromise with the student in his Shawnee State University philosophy class who demanded he use particular pronouns, including using the student\u2019s chosen name and no pronouns at all. But school officials insist his only choices are to use each student\u2019s preferred pronouns \u2014 or no gender terms at all, for anyone. \u201cThis would require me to speak the \u00adEnglish language as it has never been spoken in the history of Western civilization.\u201d He refuses to imply \u201ca man is a woman, or a woman a man\u201d \u2014 \u201cto effectively lie and so violate my con<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> as a philosopher and as a Christian,\u201d so he has sued. Critics call his position \u201cfree speech gone wild\u201d; would they say the same to \u201ca Jewish professor who is fired for refusing to respond to a neo-Nazi student with a Sieg Heil salute\u201d?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Critic: Crouch\u2019s All-American Culture <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The late cultural critic Stanley Crouch \u201cwas one of America\u2019s great raconteurs: at once urbane and down-home, witty, cutting, always \u00adimpassioned,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nybooks.com\/daily\/2020\/09\/24\/the-stanley-crouch-i-knew\/\">recalls Adam Shatz at The New York Review of Books<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s no wonder\u201d Saul Bellow and Philip Roth \u201cbefriended him. In his reverence for books and art, his loathing of academic cant and his love of intellectual combat, Stanley was one of the last old-school New York intellectuals.\u201d His great love was jazz, which he saw as \u201cnot only the \u00adexpression of American democracy\u201d but \u201cthe only working model of meritocracy in America, other than sports. Rather than bemoan its \u00adabsence in other arenas, he wanted to build on the example.\u201d That a self-made black man \u201clike him could become one of the country\u2019s best-known cultural critics\u201d was \u201cproof of his convictions about the democratic nature and \u2018rich mulatto tones\u2019 of American culture.\u201d His politics were \u201ca politics of self-respect and black middle-class pride, white liberals be damned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eye on Washington: Khashoggi\u2019s Legacy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jamal Khashoggi\u2019s \u201cdream\u201d of a DC organization \u201cto promote democracy in the Arab world\u201d has been realized two years after the Washington Post writer\u2019s death at the hands of Saudi agents, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/09\/28\/world\/middleeast\/jamal-khashoggi-dawn-saudi-arabia.html\">reports The New York Times\u2019 Ben Hubbard<\/a>.
