A mystery man was confronted as he bizarrely dumped up to 100 eels into Brooklyn\u2019s Prospect Park Lake \u2014 continuing even as he was warned he was \u201ckilling other life\u201d in the water, video shows.<\/p>\n

Dominick Pabon filmed himself as he confronted the slippery character at around 7.30 p.m. Sunday, he told NBC New York<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s like 100 eels!\u201d he could be heard telling the man, saying it was \u201cf\u2014ed up\u201d and warning, \u201cThat\u2019s not legal.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care,\u201d the man replied \u2014 continuing to throw in the eels despite Pabon\u2019s repeated warnings.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t need to call cops, I save lives!\u201d the man told him, at one point saying he \u201cbought them from the store.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2018Oh I save lives, I save lives,\u2019 and I\u2019m like, no, dude,’\u201d Pabon recounted to NBC. \u201cAnd he\u2019s just throwing them in as we\u2019re talking \u2026 80 to 100 eels, just tossing them in, like nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pabon, a Sunset Park resident who has been fishing in the park for 13 years, conjectured to the Brooklyn Paper<\/a> the fish were likely some species of saltwater eel, as some attempted to free themselves from the freshwater lake.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were trying to swim back out of the lake, it was crazy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He tried to flag down a passing police car but it did not stop, he said.<\/p>\n

The Prospect Park Alliance confirmed to the station that \u201cthe release of pets and other animals in the park is illegal without a permit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a hazard both to those animals and the plants and wildlife that call the park home,\u201d the alliance said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe parks waterways and natural areas are fragile habitats, and this can disrupt these naturally occurring systems, introducing disease and other pathogens which can be harmful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fines for illegal dumping in waterways range from $1,500 to $10,000 for the first violation, and not less than $5,000 or more than $20,000 for each subsequent time, the paper noted.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
