“#Country Singer Mac Davis Dead at 78<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Mac Davis, the country singer-songwriter who wrote several hits for Elvis Presley, has died following heart surgery, his manager Jim Morey confirmed. He was 78. \u201cMac Davis has been my client for over 40 years, and more importantly, my best friend,\u201d Morey wrote. \u201cHe was a music legend, but his most important work was that as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. I will miss laughing about our many adventures on the road and his insightful sense of humor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mac Davis was born in Lubbock, Texas, in 1942. After starting a band and recording a handful of solo material in the \u201960s, he was hired as a staff songwriter for Nancy Sinatra\u2019s publishing company. In 1968, Elvis Presley recorded his song \u201cA Little Less Conversation,\u201d which would become one of Davis\u2019 most popular compositions. This kickstarted the Davis and Presley\u2019s working relationship, which also found Presley recording Davis-penned songs such as \u201cIn the Ghetto,\u201d \u201cMemories,\u201d and \u201cDon\u2019t Cry Daddy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis rose to prominence as a solo artist in the \u201970s with hits such as \u201cBaby Don\u2019t Get Hooked on Me\u201d and \u201cI Believe in Music.\u201d He also began working as an actor, app<\/a>earing in films such as North Dallas Forty<\/em>, television shows including Murder She Wrote<\/em>, and the Broadway musical The Will Rogers Follies<\/em>. Davis continued releasing music and working with other artists, notably co-writing the title track of Dolly Parton\u2019s 1990 album White Limozeen<\/em>. In 2010, Davis was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n

During the past decade, Davis collaborated with Weezer on \u201cTime Flies,\u201d from their 2010 album Hurley<\/em>. He also received writing credits on Avicii\u2019s \u201cAddicted to You\u201d and Bruno Mars\u2019 \u201cYoung Girls.\u201d \u201c[At] my age, I\u2019m extremely grateful to be doing what I\u2019m doing and still functioning in the music business,\u201d Davis said in a 2017 interview<\/a>. \u201cYou know, I get excited every time I get involved with somebody and write a song. It\u2019s still a fun thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
