So, if we’re to believe that report, Gase is a poor Thursday night performance away from being fired.

A couple of things immediately came to mind with that Chris Mortensen ESPN report.

Adam Gase could be coaching for his Jets job Thursday night against the Broncos.Corey Sipkin

Firstly, Johnson gave Gase a public vote of confidence on Sept. 16. So, how bad a look would it be for him to fire his coach two weeks after saying he has “full confidence’’ in Gase, whom he also called an “offensive genius?’’

Secondly, Jets general manager Joe Douglas was hired in large part because of his past working relationship with Gase. So, how awkward will it be if he’s forced to have a say with Johnson on firing the man who helped get him hired?

Johnson is a good man who’s more passionate about bringing Jets fans a winner than they probably understand, and he has zero interest in firing Gase. The thing is, though, he may have no choice.

The results make it difficult to make a case for Gase, who’s 7-12 with an alarming 10 losses by 10 or more points. This season alone, the Jets have lost by 10, 18 and 29 points.

As for Gase’s offensive “genius,” the Jets enter the game ranked 32nd in the NFL in points scored with an average of 12.3 per game. They’re also 32nd in yards per game and 31st in passing offense. That passing offense ranking is particularly telling because the Jets have been playing from behind all season, which usually means passing statistics become deceivingly bloated.

This Gase evaluation isn’t only about this season, during which the Jets have had an inordinate amount of injuries on the offensive side of the ball — most notably at receiver, where they were without their top three last week.

Last season, Gase’s offense ranked 31st in the league in points scored with 17.3 per game, 32nd in total offensive yards and 29th in passing.

The quarterback he was hired to develop, Sam Darnold, is 11-18 as a starter and appears to be making the same mistakes he’s made in his first two seasons. Darnold is coming off one of the worst performances of his career, with two pick-6 INTs and another pick in the end zone.

Yes, Gase has had some hardships with injuries, but his sample size is growing and so, too, is the reality that he’s not long for his job unless there’s a pretty quick turnaround.

“It’s something I can’t focus on,” Gase said Tuesday when asked about the rumors about his tenuous job status. “It’s wasted energy for me.”

Unfortunately for expectant Jets fans, it’s looking more and more like the past two years have been wasted as the team readies for yet another organizational reboot.

And the hamster wheels spins on.

For forums sites go to Forum.BuradaBiliyorum.Com

If you want to read more News articles, you can visit our News category.

Source

“#This may be Adam Gase’s last stand with the Jets” The game, on paper, has all the makings of a pillow fight.
