Director Doug Liman<\/strong>\u2018s new heist movie just got an injection of new cast members.<\/p>\n

Ben Stiller<\/strong> (Tropic Thunder<\/em>), Lily James<\/strong> (Baby Driver<\/em>), Stephen Merchant<\/strong> (Logan<\/em>), and more are the latest names to join Lockdown<\/strong><\/em>, a pandemic-theme<\/a>d heist film which already had Anne Hathaway<\/strong>\u00a0(Les Miserables<\/em>) and Chiwetel Ejiofor<\/strong> (Doctor Strange<\/em>) on board in the lead roles. Before he sends Tom Cruise to literal space, Doug Liman, the director of films like The Bourne Identity<\/em>, Edge of Tomorrow<\/em>, and Jumper<\/em>, is getting back behind the camera for a much more\u2026grounded film. Lockdown<\/em>, a heist film with elements of both romantic comedy and drama, is set against the backdrop of COVID-19 and stars Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor as a sparring married couple who call a truce to attempt a high-risk, high-stakes jewelry heist at Harrod\u2019s, the world\u2019s most exclusive department store.<\/p>\n

Steven Knight<\/strong>, who wrote films as varied as Eastern Promises<\/em>, Locke<\/em>, Seventh Son<\/em>, Burnt<\/em>, Allied<\/em>, The Girl in the Spider\u2019s Web<\/em>, and the notoriously awful Matthew McConaughey\/Anne Hathaway film Serenity<\/em>, wrote the screenplay for this one, so there\u2019s truly no telling how Lockdown<\/em> will shake out. As for Liman, he\u2019s worked some magic with the \u201csparring couple\u201d vibe in the past in 2005\u2019s Mr. and Mrs. Smith<\/em>. He also has some heist experience, directing the pilot of a 2006 TV series<\/a> called\u2026well, Heist<\/em>. The show didn\u2019t last, but here\u2019s the pilot if you\u2019re interested:<\/p>\n

Now The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> says Stiller, James, and Merchant are in \u201cadvanced talks\u201d to star in the movie, while actors Dul\u00e9 Hill<\/strong> (one of the leads of the USA Network comedy Psych<\/em>), Jazmyn Simon<\/strong>\u00a0(Ballers<\/em>), and Mark Gatiss<\/strong> (Sherlock<\/em>) are listed as \u201calso in talks.\u201d Simon previously worked with Hill on the two Psych<\/em> movies and with Merchant on HBO\u2019s underseen comedy series\u00a0Hello Ladies<\/em>. There\u2019s no word on who any of them will be playing, but this is shaping up to be a strong ensemble.<\/p>\n

Production on Lockdown<\/em> has just begun in London, and the film will continue to follow \u201cstrict protocols\u201d as the shoot stretches through October in the United Kingdom.\u00a0AGC Studios is financing the movie, which will be produced by\u00a0PJ van Sandwijk\u00a0<\/strong>(American Dharma<\/em>, Citizen K<\/em>), Alison Winter<\/strong>, who has worked with Liman on several film and streaming productions over the past few years, and Michael Lesslie<\/strong>, who wrote the 2016 movie adaptation of Assassin\u2019s Creed<\/em>.
