{"id":79227,"date":"2020-10-01T04:00:24","date_gmt":"2020-10-01T01:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/covid-19-clusters-in-nyc-growing-at-an-alarming-rate\/"},"modified":"2020-10-01T04:00:24","modified_gmt":"2020-10-01T01:00:24","slug":"covid-19-clusters-in-nyc-growing-at-an-alarming-rate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/covid-19-clusters-in-nyc-growing-at-an-alarming-rate\/","title":{"rendered":"#COVID-19 clusters in NYC growing at an alarming rate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#COVID-19 clusters in NYC growing at an alarming rate<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                        The outer borough COVID spike is growing.<\/p>\n<p>City Hall revealed late Wednesday that the major southern Brooklyn coronavirus outbreak cluster now spans from Brighton Beach all the way to eastern Crown Heights \u2014 as officials added a slew of new neighborhoods to the list of those witnessing concerning spikes in COVID test rates.<\/p>\n<p>Clusters in Southern Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Central Queens and Far Rockaway neighborhoods recorded positive coronavirus infection rates between 3 and almost 7 percent based on a two week rolling average that\u2019s continuing to drive up the citywide infection rate past 3 percent.<\/p>\n<p>Five zip codes in Brooklyn and Queens already on the city\u2019s COVID hotspot watchlist \u2014 now grown to 10 neighborhoods with infection rates higher than 3 percent \u2014 tracked spikes over a 24-hour period.<br \/>Borough Park\u2019s positive infection rate rests at 6.51 percent, up .0.28 percent compared to Tuesday\u2019s data, Bensonhurst\/Mapleton saw a 0.26 percent increase over the same time period, bringing the neighborhood to a 6.31 percent average infection rate.<\/p>\n<p>Gerritsen Beach\/Homecrest\/Sheepshead Bay\u2019s infection rate is recorded at 4.13 percent, up 0.08 percent, and Kew Gardens Hills\/Pomonok is at 3.68 percent \u2014 also an increase of 0.08 compared to the previous day.<\/p>\n<p>A new neighborhood \u2014 Fresh Meadows\/Hillcrest \u2014 was added to Gotham\u2019s hotspot list, tracking a 3.08 percent infection rate \u2014 a 0.22 increase from the day prior.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Edgemere\/Far Rockaway, Gravesend\/Homecrest, Midwood, Flatlands, Kew Gardens saw slight declines in their positive infection rates, although they alarmingly remained above the city\u2019s 3 percent threshold.<\/p>\n<p>These ten areas make up over 27.5 percent of Gotham\u2019s new virus cases over the past two weeks, accounting for 7.5 percent of the city\u2019s overall population.<\/p>\n<p>City health officials also added a new category of seven communities recording virus upticks hovering between an average of 2 to 3 percent \u2014 which include Williamsburg, Crown Heights East, Bedford-Stuyvesant West,\/Clinton Hill\/Fort Greene and Hillcrest\/Jamaica Estates\/Jamaica Hills.<\/p>\n<p>Viral videos and firsthand reporting by The Post give witness to maskless gatherings and large crowds, despite continuous pleas by Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo for New Yorkers to practice <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> distancing and don face coverings.<\/p>\n<p>De Blasio has also threatened to rollback progress in certain areas if noncompliance persists, and even close public schools should positive infection rates persist above 3 percent on a seven day rolling average.<\/p>\n<p>The clusters \u2014 several home to members of the Orthodox Jewish community \u2014 have drawn ire from Gov. Andrew Cuomo \u2014 who said he spoke with Jewish leaders Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI spoke to the leaders of the Orthodox community this morning and we had a good conversation,\u201d Cuomo told reporters during a late-morning conference call.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re nowhere near herd immunity,\u201d he seethed, listing eight hotspots in Brooklyn and Queens have also landed themselves on a statewide list tracking New York\u2019s top ten zip codes seeing COVID-19 spikes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16380210\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img class=\"size-nypost-large-desktop-uncropped wp-image-16380210 lazyload\" alt=\"Gov. Andrew Cuomo<\/span><span class=\"credit\">   Robert MIller<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cuomo slammed local governments \u2014 without naming Mayor de Blasio \u2014 but he did complain that compliance enforcement by the state police were not enough, and he may need local police departments \u2014 including the NYPD \u2014 to lend officers for a special COVID compliance task force.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe local governments must do compliance,\u201d he insisted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a state law and the localities must enforce it\u2026they have to enforce the state law and they\u2019re not doing it with enough diligence.
