You\u2019d have to spend anywhere between \u20b93,500 ($47.50) to \u20b95,000 ($68) to get their smallest\u00a0speakers \u2014 namely, the Echo Dot and the Nest Mini.<\/p>\n<p>Xiaomi is aiming to take over that segment by offering better specs at an affordable price with its Mi Smart Speaker. The device is a spec-equivalent to the mid-sized Amazon Echo and<span>\u00a0Google Nest. Its introductory price is just \u20b93,499($47.50), after which it\u2019ll likely increase by a bit, but remain in this price segment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been using the Mi Smart Speaker for more than five days, and it manages to provide you all smarts while being loud enough sound for your desk or a small room.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Design_and_features\"><\/span>Design and features<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Mi Smart Speaker has a semi-cylindrical design with a 0.7mm thick metal mesh surrounding the speaker. On the top, there are touch panel controls for volume, play\/pause, and muting the mic.<\/p>\n<p>This is not a \u2018portable\u2019 speaker per se, so you\u2019ll need to keep it plugged in all the time. This allows you to pair the speaker up with your smart TV and use it as an external audio source. If you have two of these (or one other Chromecast enabled speaker), you can use them as stereo speakers.<\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s all your usual smart home stuff. You can easily control your lights, security cameras, smart plugs, and <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>liances through the speaker.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Performance\"><\/span>Performance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Mi Smart Speaker has a front-firing driver. So, don\u2019t expect the 360-degree sound experience you get from something like an Amazon Echo or a Google Nest (Home).<\/p>\n<p><span>That driver is a 63.5 mm unit that is rated at 12W. Xiaomi claims that the device also has a Texas Instruments Hi-Fi audio processing chip to aid in sound reproduction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For listening to commands, it has two far-field mics on either side of the touch panel. A blue \u201caurora\u201d light ring surrounds the top surface, and<span>\u00a0it glows when it\u2019s listening to your requests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The sound tuning is exceedingly <span style=\"background-color: rgba(46, 146, 255, 0.2);\">bass-heavy<\/span>; you\u2019ll be\u00a0<span>able to hear bass lines, kick drums, and other percussion instruments clearly. Once again, the vocals, guitars, and synth lines were masked by the booming drums and bass.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The speaker\u2019s sound is more affable when you listen to pop songs such as Glass Animal\u2019s <em>Deja Vu<\/em> and Dua Lipa\u2019s <em>Physical<\/em>. Mind you, they still lack some of the vocal texture these songs have on offer.\u00a0<span>But a single driver can only do so much to deliver balanced sound.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s one visible advantage of a front-firing speaker. If you\u2019re sitting at a slight angle from the speaker, you won\u2019t have to yell out commands, even when it\u2019s blasting music at full volume.<\/p>\n<p>I think the Mi Smart Speaker is\u00a0<span>good enough for the desk in your study, or in a small room.<\/span>\u00a0It\u2019s much better than the Google Nest Mini and the Amazon Echo dot in terms of sound quality. However, I wouldn\u2019t necessarily use it as a speaker to pair with my\u00a0TV.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Whos_it_for\"><\/span>Who\u2019s it for?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Currently, Xiaomi is selling the speaker for \u20b93,499 ($47.50), which is a no-brainer price for this device if you were in the market for an Echo Dot or Nest Mini.<\/p>\n<p>On its website, the company has said that after the introductory offer it might sell the device\u00a0\u20b95,999 ($81.50). Even at that price, it\u2019s cheaper than your regular Amazon Echo or Google Nest. They sell anywhere between \u20b97,500 ($102) to \u20b99,999 ($136).<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__gutter__right\" data-qa=\"message_content\">\n<div class=\"c-message_kit__blocks c-message_kit__blocks--rich_text\">\n<div class=\"c-message__message_blocks c-message__message_blocks--rich_text\">\n<div class=\"p-block_kit_renderer\" data-qa=\"block-kit-renderer\">\n<div class=\"p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper--first\">\n<div class=\"p-rich_text_block\" dir=\"auto\">\nIf you don\u2019t mind the prominent bass in its sound signature, you\u2019ll appreciate having the Mi Smart Speaker around with its ability to get loud and offer Google Assistant features at a low price.
