\n Evidence continues to mount that Obama officials\u2019 drive to conjure up the Russiagate \u201cscandal\u201d in order to cripple the Trump presidency went well beyond politicization of the Justice Department.<\/p>\n

It now looks like then-CIA chief John Brennan drummed up a phony intelligence community \u201cconsensus\u201d on Russian election meddling. In fact, two senior intel officials told<\/a> RealClearInvestigations\u2019 Paul Sperry, career analysts disputed Brennan\u2019s conclusion that Vladimir Putin was intent on helping defeat Hillary Clinton, but the CIA director ignored them \u2014 making a political ally who donated to Hillary Clinton the report\u2019s lead writer and personally editing a section of it himself.<\/p>\n

Brennan\u2019s report then helped justify the Russiagate investigation \u2014 which, after two years, found absolutely no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.<\/p>\n

Two weeks before Trump took office, the Obama administration released a declassified version of the report \u2014 \u201cIntelligence Community Assessment on Russian Activities and Intentions in Recent Elections\u201d \u2014 that the president\u2019s critics have used ever since to undermine his legitimacy.<\/p>\n

Two intel officials told Sperry that Brennan excluded \u201cconflicting evidence about Putin\u2019s motives.\u201d Some career analysts found that Putin feared Trump as a \u201cwild card\u201d who wanted to expand the US military. They also noted that the Kremlin\u2019s main purpose was \u201cgeneral<\/a>ly trying to sow discord and disrupt the American democratic process\u201d \u2014 as it had meddled in the 2008 and 2012 campaigns.<\/p>\n

Unlike most assessments, the report included no annex of dissent. But it did include an annex summarizing the infamous Christopher Steele dossier, which investigators had already determined was a joke.<\/p>\n

And a sophisticated campaign of selective leaks to the media<\/a> made it seem like Steele\u2019s wild charges had some validity.<\/p>\n

Sperry\u2019s sources say \u201ca number of analysts objected to including the dossier,\u201d saying it was \u201cnot sound intelligence.\u201d Brennan included it anyway.<\/p>\n

House Intelligence Committee staff spent 1,200 hours reviewing how the assessment got put together. But the report was locked away after Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff became committee head in January 2019. Sperry\u2019s sources have read the 50-page report \u2014 and one says it \u201cmakes it fairly clear the assessment was politicized and skewed to discredit Trump\u2019s election.\u201d<\/p>\n
