Likewise, in 2008, the Times lost $58 million and then cited a net income-tax \u201cbenefit\u201d of nearly $6 million. The paper \u201ccomplains\u201d of Trump\u2019s foreign investments and payments to his kids to avoid the gift tax. Yet the Times also has foreign business and has paid multiple family members six-figure salaries. The paper is painting \u201cTrump as somehow corrupt for doing things that the Ochs-Sulzberger family has itself been doing for years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iconoclast: Supreme Tit-For-Tat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After Justice Antonin Scalia\u2019s death, Benjamin Wittes and Miguel Estrada wrote that \u201cthe only rule that governs the confirmation process is the law of the jungle: There are no rules,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2020\/09\/29\/the-only-rule-that-governs-the-confirmation-process-is-the-law-of-the-jungle\/\">and The Volokh Conspiracy\u2019s Jonathan H. Adler agrees<\/a>. He\u2019d prefer the Senate \u201cfocus on the objective qualifications of nominees\u201d and not whether \u201ca judge embraces the proper judicial philosophy.\u201d That non-ideological <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach led to \u201cthe unanimous confirmation\u201d of Scalia and \u201cnear-unanimous confirmation of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, despite the fact that many senators disagreed with them on many issues.\u201d But more recently, both sides have joined in \u201can escalating <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> of tit-for-tat.\u201d And when President George W. Bush \u00adre-nominated a failed Bill Clinton nominee, the \u201cminor gesture was never reciprocated, nor repeated,\u201d teaching the lesson: \u201cDe-escalation is for suckers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Campaign desk: A Biden Labor Ally\u2019s Disgrace<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Harold Schaitberger, \u201cone of Biden\u2019s closest labor allies,\u201d announced he will not be running for re-election as International Association of Firefighters president \u201camid a federal probe into allegations that he illegally \u00adsiphoned more than $1 million from the union treasury,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/2020-election\/top-biden-labor-ally-drops-reelection-bid-amid-federal-probe\/\">reports The Washington Free Beacon\u2019s Yuichiro Kakutani<\/a>. The IAFF was \u201cthe first major \u00adnational union to back the former vice president,\u201d but Schaitberger\u2019s exit \u201cmay dampen the union\u2019s support for Biden, especially since many rank-and-file members \u00adobjected to the endorsement.\u201d The union prez has denied any misconduct \u2014 but however the investigation turns out, his \u201cfall from grace\u201d is a loss for Biden. Just hours after the announcement, the union\u2019s Philadelphia chapter endorsed Trump.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From the right: Comey\u2019s Tinseltown Fans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>James Comey is an object of bipartisan hate, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/everyone-hates-james-comey-except-for-hollywood\">observes the Washington Examiner\u2019s Tiana Lowe<\/a>, thanks to infamous \u201cpreening and grandstanding\u201d that may have cost Hillary Clinton the 2016 election before becoming a headache for President Trump. But not in Hollywood. Showtime has now adapted the ex-FBI boss\u2019 memoir, with Jeff Daniels playing Comey and coming off as \u201ceven more self-aggrandizing.\u201d Deputy Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Rod Rosenstein gets painted as a villain, \u201ca conniving caricature of the menacing Jew manipulating all of the noble gentiles.\u201d Worse, \u201cthe show attempts to exonerate Comey of any charges of politicizing\u201d major investigations and turns anti-Trump FBI operatives like Lisa Page into \u201csexy\u201d \u00adheroes. \u201cOnly Hollywood is capable of missing\u201d why it\u2019s impossible to rehabilitate Comey and his reviled coterie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Education beat: Universities Lack Free Speech<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In theory, universities should be spaces of free discussion and inquiry. But the College Free-Speech Rankings \u2014 a new interactive site with data from nearly 20,000 students at over 55 schools across the country \u2014 show that \u201ccolleges have become perilous places to express unpopular ideas,\u201d \u00ad<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.realcleareducation.com\/articles\/2020\/09\/29\/2020_college_free_speech_rankings_reveal_crisis_on_campus_110476.html\">laments RealClearPolitics\u2019 Nathan Harden<\/a>. Students are comfortable sharing their beliefs \u201cwhere their political opinions line up with the majority,\u201d and liberalism is the dominant political ideology at 80 percent.
