O\u2019Toole was clad in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RebeccaOToole1\/status\/1311275977377538048\">bold blue suit and an orange tie<\/a> that recognized <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.orangeshirtday.org\/\"><strong>Orange Shirt Day<\/strong><\/a>, an effort to raise awareness about the horrible impact of residential schools on Indigenous people. He slammed the Trudeau team as entitled, unwilling to learn lessons and all too willing to reward Liberal friends with\u00a0plum contracts. Much of the speech echoed <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a>s typical of former leader <strong>Andrew Scheer<\/strong>\u2018s parliamentary pronouncements.<\/p>\n<p>But O\u2019Toole also <strong>jabbed at New Democrats<\/strong> sitting in the far corner. After celebrating service clubs\u2014O\u2019Toole is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a Rotarian\u2014he recalled his roots as the son of a GM employee. \u201cOrganized labour helps build strong communities,\u201d he said, celebrating unions as forces for good that lets workers know \u201csomeone has their back.\u201d GM\u2019s union, Unifor, <strong>declared electoral war<\/strong> on O\u2019Toole\u2019s predecessor. The gauntlet is, apparently, thrown.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thank you:<\/strong> These are technically challenging times for MPs. Tory health critic <strong>Michelle Rempel Garner<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MichelleRempel\/status\/1311413194125180931\">name-checked<\/a> an IT magician,\u00a0<strong>Joshua Lind<\/strong>, who \u201crepeatedly saved my life through various forms of electronic ensorcellement.\u201d God willing, we all have a Joshua in our lives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>V-ish recovery:<\/strong>\u00a0Yesterday, Statistics Canada <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/200930\/dq200930a-eng.htm?HPA=1\">published<\/a>\u00a0a tranche of summertime GDP growth data. Every sector of the economy <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/200930\/t001a-eng.htm\">grew in July<\/a>, led by accommodation and food services, which grew by 20.1 per cent. The overall GDP graph <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www150.statcan.gc.ca\/n1\/daily-quotidien\/200930\/cg-a002-eng.htm\"><strong>resembled an incomplete V<\/strong><\/a>. By August, preliminary estimates say real GDP growth slowed to just 1 per cent\u2014and both retail trade and public administration \u201cpulled back marginally.\u201d But more conclusive data is a month away.<\/p>\n<p>Small businesses employ more than <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ic.gc.ca\/eic\/site\/061.nsf\/eng\/h_03090.html\"><strong>eight million Canadians<\/strong><\/a>. By September, a federal-provincial rent-relief program had <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/department-finance\/news\/2020\/09\/government-announces-extension-of-rent-relief-for-small-businesses.html\">helped 106,000 companies<\/a> (representing 994,000 employees) with fixed costs to the tune of <strong>$1.32 billion<\/strong>. As a second wave of COVID-19 sets in across major cities in Canada, the federal wage subsidy remains\u2014but rent relief has expired. The feds confirmed yesterday <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joshokane\/status\/1311382209631342594\">they have no plan<\/a> yet to help small businesses with fixed costs, beyond a Throne Speech <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/privy-council\/campaigns\/speech-throne\/2020\/stronger-resilient-canada.html#helping-canadians-pandemic\">commitment<\/a> to expand access to existing loan programs\u2014in other words, <strong>more debt for the little guy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Canada\u2019s embassy in Beijing<\/strong> is due for an upgrade, the\u00a0<em>Globe and Mail<\/em> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/world\/article-ottawa-soliciting-proposals-for-redesign-of-embassy-in-beijing\/\">reports<\/a>. A <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/buyandsell.gc.ca\/cds\/public\/2020\/09\/22\/29f162b7d45a76fc573e066ab50ee381\/21-177447-acme_beijing_master_planning_-_rfp_en.pdf\">request for proposals<\/a> published by the feds is on the hunt for a firm that can develop a new master plan for Canada\u2019s compound. The plan should incorporate \u201cdesign elements that will appeal to investors, stewards, environmentalists, employees, visitors and the host country alike.\u201d The design should balance <strong>\u201cbold and creative ideas\u201d<\/strong> and \u201caffordable and practical solutions.\u201d A section on the <strong>\u201cgeopolitical context\u201d<\/strong> emphasizes myriad <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> and economic ties\u2014but makes no mention of a nearly two-year diplomatic chill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A mari usque ad mare:<\/strong> Andrew King, an Ottawa writer and artist who digs up all manner of local kitsch, tweeted a photo of a hefty\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/twitandrewking\/status\/1311332287536140288\"><strong>Royal Coat of Arms of Canada<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0available for purchase at Mike\u2019s Office Surplus, a furniture and electronics supply shop tucked in an industrial park just east of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science<\/a> and Tech museum. Mike\u2019s tells\u00a0<em>Maclean\u2019s<\/em> there are actually two coats of arms in stock. The cast aluminum relics of a local office building each weigh 70-80 pounds. They\u2019re yours for as low as <strong>$5,000 apiece<\/strong>, but that price might spike. The shop claims to have sold another coat of arms to a B.C. collector a few years back for <strong>$20,000<\/strong>. The manufacturer appears to be Alloy Foundry in nearby Merrickville, which <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.village-metalsmiths.com\/about-us\/history\/\">claims to be Canada\u2019s oldest<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paw patrol:<\/strong>\u00a0After a Royal Canadian Air Force crew landed their CH-149 Cormorant in remote Saglek, a radar outpost in northern Labrador, an overnight visitor welcomed the aircraft to the area. No military personnel was able to bear witness to the event, but <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RCAF_ARC\/status\/1311294297644453888\"><strong>photographic evidence<\/strong><\/a> proved a certain four-legged creature wreaked minor havoc by pawing at the Cormorant.
