Here is something I\u2019m 100% certain no one saw coming: the\u00a0Spider-Man: Far From Home<\/em><\/strong> sequel is bringing back Jamie Foxx<\/strong>\u2018s Electro from\u00a0The Amazing Spider-Man 2<\/em>, even though that was a completely different franchise with a completely different Spider-Man. There\u2019s some precedent for this, since\u00a0Far From Home<\/em> brought back J.K. Simmons<\/strong> as\u00a0J. Jonah Jameson from the Sam Raimi\u00a0Spider-Man<\/em> trilogy. But still\u2026this is a bit weird, folks.<\/p>\n

THR<\/a> has the scoop on Jamie Foxx returning as Electro in the\u00a0Spider-Man: Far From Home<\/em> sequel, AKA\u00a0Spider-Man 3<\/em> (not to be confused with the other\u00a0Spider-Man 3<\/em>). This is a bit surprising (or should I say\u00a0shocking<\/em>), since Foxx\u2019s Electro is from a completely different Spidey franchise.
\nWhat could this mean? The best bet is that the\u00a0Far From Home<\/em> sequel is going to involve the Multiverse in some capacity. The Multiverse \u2013 different universes with different versions of various Marvel characters \u2013 is being set-up in the next\u00a0Doctor Strange<\/em> movie,\u00a0Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness<\/em>. Is that going to spill over into the third entry in the Marvel-Sony\u00a0Spider-Man<\/em> series<\/a>? Maybe!<\/p>\n

If so, this opens the door to all sorts of possibilities. Will Tom Holland<\/strong>\u2018s Peter Parker somehow run into the versions of the character played by\u00a0Tobey Maguire<\/strong> and Andrew Garfield<\/strong>? Will other villains from the other\u00a0Spider-Man<\/em> franchises, like Willem Dafoe<\/strong>\u2018s Green Goblin, pop-up? I guess anything is possible \u2013 provided the actors in question are up for it.<\/p>\n

While I\u2019m definitely interested in the idea of all this crossover \u2013 it\u2019s fun! \u2013 I can\u2019t say I\u2019m thrilled at the idea of Foxx\u2019s Electro coming back.\u00a0The Amazin Spider-Man 2<\/em> is a pretty bad movie, and Foxx\u2019s Electro is one of the worst parts about it. I think Foxx can be a strong actor with the right material, but that film did him no favors. Of course, there\u2019s always a chance this is will end up being fun little cameo and not a major role.<\/p>\n

Plot details of the\u00a0Far From Home<\/em> sequel remain a mystery.\u00a0Far From Home<\/em> ended with Tom Holland\u2019s Spidey having his secret identity exposed while also being framed for the drone attack caused by\u00a0Jake Gyllenhaal<\/strong>\u2018s Quentin Beck\/Mysterio. This will no doubt lead to major complications for everyone\u2019s favorite neighborhood Spider-Man.<\/p>\n

Cast members Tom Holland,\u00a0Zendaya<\/strong>, Marisa Tomei<\/strong>, Jacob Batalon<\/strong>, and Tony Revolori<\/strong> are all expected to return, as is director Jon Watts<\/strong>. As of now, the release date is set for\u00a0December 17, 2021<\/strong>, but that could always change.
