“#How Yankees, Rays are viewing rivalry heading into big ALDS<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n After the Yankees suffered one of their ugliest losses of the season to the Blue Jays in Buffalo just over a week ago, they learned the Rays had clinched the AL East.<\/p>\n

Following that Sept. 23 game<\/a>, Luke Voit said, \u201cWe\u2019ll see them again.\u201d <\/p>\n

Voit proved to be right after the division rivals advanced to the ALDS, and starting Monday at Petco Park in San Diego, the Yankees get their shot at redemption.<\/p>\n

The two teams met 10 times in the 60-game regular season and Tampa Bay won eight of those games. <\/p>\n

Mixed in were a lot of bad feelings and a near bench-clearing brawl triggered when Aroldis Chapman buzzed Mike Brosseau with a 101 mph fastball in a Yankees win on Sept. 1.<\/p>\n

Afterward, Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash said: \u201cSomebody\u2019s got to be accountable. And the last thing I\u2019ll say on it, I got a whole damn stable of guys that throw 98 mph. Period.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Rays made T-shirts celebrating Cash\u2019s response, but didn\u2019t take revenge in the team\u2019s final matchup of the regular season the following day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand it\u2019s there,\u2019\u2019 Giancarlo Stanton said of the bitterness after the Yankees worked out at Progressive Field in Cleveland on Thursday, hours after they beat the Indians in a wild Game 2 clincher. <\/p>\n

\u201cBut they won the division,\u2019\u2019 Stanton said of the Rays. \u201cThey\u2019ve got that now and we have an opportunity to let them just have the division. The full bragging rights chance is here. Shirts and hats don\u2019t mean anything. We\u2019re gonna be in San Diego and play it out there.\u201d <\/p>\n

Brosseau downplayed last month\u2019s fireworks Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think everything that happ<\/a>ened in New York is hopefully in the past,\u201d Brosseau told reporters. \u201cThe way that we pitch is the way that we pitch. But as far as things carrying over from past experiences, at least from our end, I think we put it in the past and our focus is on getting past this round and moving on.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Cash and Aaron Boone served one-game suspensions following the incident, while Chapman\u2019s appeal of a three-game ban was pushed to next year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re ready,\u2019\u2019 Stanton said. \u201cIt\u2019s gonna be fun. It\u2019s gonna be a good fight to take this East Coast battle to the West Coast.\u201d<\/p>\n
