\n Houston, we have a problem.<\/p>\n

Brooklyn resident Charles Walters found his iconic spaceship car covered in graffiti this week.<\/p>\n

The vehicle, a 2005 Chevy Blazer that Walters and his pals covered in a hulking pyramid of metal siding, is often spotted and photographed on the streets of Prospect Heights, where the entrepreneur lives with his wife and two sons.<\/p>\n

When locals caught wind of the vandalism, they were crushed. The out-of-this-world project is such a beloved sight around the area that when an image of the tagged car was shared on social media<\/a> Wednesday, Walters said concerned friends texted him, \u201cDid you leave New York?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But he reassured The Post that he and his stellar car were not taking off anytime soon. Walters, who is in his 40s, spiffed up his joyride early Thursday morning for its forthcoming voyages, including app<\/a>earances at Halloween events around the neighborhood slated for later this month.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a target for whatever reason \u2026 It\u2019s a part of New York,\u201d said Walters, who uses the vehicle to shuttle his sons, 13-year-old Charles and 11-year-old Barclay, to their baseball game<\/a>s in Greenpoint, where it was parked when it was vandalized. \u201cIt was very jarring [to find the graffiti]. We took action quickly to remedy it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The now-famous metal-clad SUV owes its origins to a 2014 Post story. In his role as a partner of Williamsburg Pizza, Walters had successfully delivered a pizza by drone. He then wanted to add to the thrill of the special delivery by having the drone take off from and return to the top of a car resembling a spaceship.<\/p>\n

So in 2016, he and some employees crafted it together in Bushwick. The four-piece metal frame of steel and aluminum \u2014 some new, some scrap \u2014 came together in about six weeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just an exoskeleton,\u201d he said. \u201cIt can actually be removed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Opening the doors requires either clambering in through a window or lifting one of the metal panels.<\/p>\n

\u201cI drive around and the look on people\u2019s faces \u2026 the astonishment, the confusion,\u201d Walters told The Post, adding that he can sometimes see people mouth \u201cWhat the f\u2009-\u2009-\u2009k?\u201d as he cruises by.<\/p>\n

His kids are kind of desensitized to it, although sometimes they get fed up when their dad engages in conversations with passersby about it.<\/p>\n

\u201cLike \u2018Daaaaad!\u2019 \u201d Walters imitated. \u201cIt\u2019s tough for anything that your parents do to be cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cops do pull him over from time to time, he added, but the vehicle is street legal thanks to being under the maximum width of 8 feet and 6 inches.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s fine \u2014 I go 20 miles per hour wherever I\u2019m going,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Over time, Walters\u2019 spaceship has become a cherished New York City oddity that attracts cellphone shutterbugs wherever it\u2019s parked.<\/p>\n

Fans of the car feared the worst after journalist Trevor Boyer posted a photo of the car on Twitter<\/a> with a caption that expressed his dismay, \u201cBrooklyn spaceship tank car fallen on hard times.\u201d Three crude scrawls besmirched the silver conveyance\u2019s body as it stood empty in what looked like a vacant gravel lot near a barbed wire-topped fence.<\/p>\n

Locals adore the vehicle, which towers above neighboring parked cars, despite its unsightly appearance.<\/p>\n

\u201cSigh, someone send me the GoFundMe to get this thing back on the streets,\u201d Brooklyn-based health technologist and medical device engineer Jason Wright commented<\/a> after seeing Boyer\u2019s photo.\u00a0\u201cOf course in 2020,\u201d said<\/a> native Brooklynite Shabazz Stuart. \u201cA sign of the times.\u201d Lamented<\/a> Max Resnik, who works for nonprofit Cortico, \u201cNooooooooo \u2014 too pure for this world.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Walters said the damage wasn\u2019t as bad as it had appeared. And on Thursday, Resnik posted two snaps of the freshly cleaned cruiser, now on Park Place in Prospect Heights.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood news<\/a> everyone!\u201d he tweeted<\/a>. \u201cThe Brooklyn spaceship car is back in action \u2014 looks freshly buffed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI love this thing,\u201d a user named Dan Miller replied<\/a>. \u201cAlways reminds me of the mutant vehicles at Burning Man. Glad to hear it\u2019s still going.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walters likes that his car has no identifying features.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a mystery ship,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Walters\u2019 mystery machine has been tagged several times before, and he said he\u2019s grown used to it. The most recent act took him about three hours to clean up.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow it\u2019s part of the character in some ways,\u201d he said. \u201cYou just gotta be careful when you\u2019re venturing on the far side of Jupiter.\u201d<\/p>\n
