\n The word has been bandied about for a few weeks now: \u201cexplosive.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The Giants don\u2019t have it. Their offense is missing it. Their longest run of the season is 23 yards, by quarterback Daniel Jones. Their longest run by a running back? Just 18 yards. The longest reception is a 41-yard touchdown pass from Jones to Darius Slayton. The second-longest reception is just 29 yards.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it starts with running the ball,\u2019\u2019 Slayton said. \u201cObviously, if you run the ball effectively, then defenses tend to come up a little bit closer and it\u2019s a little bit easier to get behind people. Obviously, that\u2019s something that I consider a skill of mine, so hopefully I\u2019ll be able to do that. But I know as well my teammates are also capable of doing those things.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The Giants as a team are averaging 3.2 yards per rushing attempt and 10.3 yards per reception. Their opponents Sunday, the Rams, average 4.6 yards per rushing attempt and 13.7 yards per reception.<\/p>\n

Jabrill Peppers lasted just nine snaps in last week\u2019s loss to the 49ers before getting hurt while on the field with the extra-point block team. Alterations on defense are needed without him, and also on special teams. Golden Tate most likely steps in as the punt returner, with Slayton and C.J. Board also options.<\/p>\n

After acclimating for two game<\/a>s, safety Logan Ryan last week moved into the starting lineup and played all 77 snaps on defense, supplanting Julian Love. The injury to Peppers forced Love back onto the field.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe thought was to get Logan\u2019s experience and versatility on the field,\u2019\u2019 defensive backs coach Jerome Henderson said. \u201cHe\u2019s got great leadership, he\u2019s got great energy, he\u2019s played in a lot of football games and been productive in a lot of games. Just trying to get him on the grass. It was nothing against Julian, it was more getting the experience and the leadership on the grass.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n
