Bookmarklets are a perfect solution, as they are secure, lightweight, and frankly, fun.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_a_Bookmarklet\"><\/span>What Is a Bookmarklet?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=define+bookmarklet&amp;oq=define+bookmarklet\">By definition<\/a>, a bookmarklet is defined as \u201ca small software application stored as a bookmark in a web browser, which typically allows a user to interact with the currently loaded web page in some way.\u201d They\u2019re typically written in JavaScript, and have a singular function that you designate. They are most commonly associated with sharing on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a>, like when you\u2019re on a cool website and see the option to share it on Facebook or Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Bookmarklets are extremely versatile in what they can do. Some can run a simple action on a page, like translating a web page, while others can handle more complex tasks by taking you directly from a live page on your blog to the back end in your content management system to edit it, for example. You have total control over them and can set them up to do exactly what you need them to do.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Benefits_of_Bookmarklets\"><\/span>The Benefits of Bookmarklets<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Because they\u2019re just a short bit of JavaScript, bookmarklets are not browser-specific, so you can set them up across any browser you use as long as it supports bookmarks. By comparison, browser extensions may be limited to just one or two browsers (which may or may not be the browser you prefer to use), and you are limited to what\u2019s available in each browser\u2019s store. There\u2019s also the slight risk that an extension may have slightly different appearance and functionality in different browsers. Bookmarklets don\u2019t have any of these issues.<\/p>\n<p>Extensions are also almost always running in the background as well, hogging your computer\u2019s resources, whereas bookmarklets don\u2019t do or use up anything until you run them. Bookmarklets are a dramatically less resource-intensive alternative to extensions. Then, you can <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dev-hq.net\/posts\/1--create-javascript-bookmarklet\">write up a bookmarklet<\/a> of your own if you\u2019re familiar with JavaScript, or you can <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/presstige.io\/p\/Guide-to-Most-Useful-Bookmarklets-for-Chrome-Firefox-Safari-etc-Digital-Inspiration-27e35a95b8114e5384231a4477bd97e7\">find the code<\/a> for one you want online, then copy and paste it as a new bookmark. Once you\u2019ve done this, your bookmarklet is installed and ready to use.<\/p>\n<p>You can also <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.howtogeek.com\/189358\/beginner-geek-how-to-use-bookmarklets-on-any-device\/\">install a bookmarklet manually<\/a>. With this method, you\u2019ll be adding the JavaScript code into the URL bar (instead of a URL). This way you can name it whatever you want, or even edit the code when you need. Bookmarklets are saved the same way a bookmark is, and they work the same way, except instead of taking you to a new web page, it simply executes the preset action on that page.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to save one for a service like <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/help.getpocket.com\/article\/987-using-the-pocket-bookmarklet\">Pocket<\/a> or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/share_options.php\">Facebook<\/a>, many already have them ready for you to use.
