\nActor Thomas Jefferson Byrd<\/strong> was shot and killed in an incident overnight in Atlanta, Georgia, according to news<\/a> reports breaking on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The actor \u2014 who most notably app<\/a>eared in multiple\u00a0Spike Lee<\/strong> films \u2014 was apparently pronounced dead due to multiple gunshot wounds in the back after an unknown incident that occurred around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday in the Atlanta area.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0TMZ<\/em>, Atlanta PD officers responded to a call of \u201ca person injured\u201d early Saturday morning, where they found Byrd unresponsive after having been shot multiple times. Emergency medical workers attempted to save his life but apparently could not, and he was soon pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

The Georgia city\u2019s homicide detectives are now investigating the case, according to a report in the\u00a0Atlanta Journal-Constitution<\/em>, but it appears police are being tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding Byrd\u2019s death and themselves may not yet have a ton of information about what led to the shooting, or who else was around and involved in those fateful moments.<\/p>\n

Lee was the first person to announce Byrd\u2019s death on social media<\/a>, letting people know what happened early Sunday morning with a series<\/a> of mournful posts on\u00a0Instagram<\/strong>, as you can see (below):<\/p>\n
