“#Aaron Judge is tortured by Yankees’ playoff failures<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n For all of Aaron Judge\u2019s success in his career, his seasons have ended in disapp<\/a>ointment.<\/p>\n

There was the ALDS defeat to the Red Sox in 2018 that\u2019s been bookended by a pair of defeats to the Astros in the ALCS.<\/p>\n

And last year, Judge stood in the visiting clubhouse at Minute Maid Park in Houston and called the Yankees\u2019 season \u201ca failure\u201d following their elimination in Game<\/a> 6.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think about it every day, to be honest,\u2019\u2019 Judge said Sunday of the playoff exits. \u201cIt\u2019s something I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll ever let go until we have a chance to win a championship. That fuels me. I hate losing. Any time I think about past years, getting kicked out of the playoffs, the next one stings as much as the one before. That\u2019s what motivates me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now that he and much of the rest of the lineup are healthy, the Yankees certainly have better odds of rewriting history.<\/p>\n

And Judge figures to be in the middle of it.<\/p>\n

His first-inning home run in Game 1 of the wild-card series<\/a> against the Indians in Cleveland helped set the tone for the two-game sweep.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s just a presence he has and an edge he plays the game with, obviously, between the lines, but there\u2019s a palpable feeling amongst our club when he\u2019s in the dugout,\u2019\u2019 Aaron Boone said of the right fielder. \u201cThere\u2019s no doubt in my mind he likes playing when there\u2019s more on the line and the bigger these games are. The reason he\u2019s playing is he wants to be champion and we\u2019re at that time of the year. And there\u2019s no question guys feed off that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Game 1 homer was also his first home run since he\u2019d returned from a trip<\/a> to the injured list due to a calf injury.<\/p>\n

Despite the lack of power after he\u2019d come off the IL, Judge said there was never a cause for concern.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe didn\u2019t have a chance to have any rehab games to work kinks out and see pitches,\u201d Judge said of rehabbing at the team\u2019s alternate site in Scranton due to the COVID-caused cancellation of the minor league season. \u201cWe got thrown right into [major league] games when it mattered. The most important thing was winning those games to put ourselves in a good position.\u201d<\/p>\n
