{"id":81875,"date":"2020-10-05T08:59:40","date_gmt":"2020-10-05T05:59:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/yankees-have-high-gerrit-cole-expectations-vs-ray-in-mlb-playoffs\/"},"modified":"2020-10-05T08:59:40","modified_gmt":"2020-10-05T05:59:40","slug":"yankees-have-high-gerrit-cole-expectations-vs-ray-in-mlb-playoffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/yankees-have-high-gerrit-cole-expectations-vs-ray-in-mlb-playoffs\/","title":{"rendered":"#Yankees have high Gerrit Cole expectations vs. Ray in MLB playoffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Yankees have high Gerrit Cole expectations vs. Ray in MLB playoffs<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/Yankees-Cole.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n                        When the Yankees signed Gerrit Cole in December to the richest deal in MLB history for a starting pitcher, they had moments like Monday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a> 1 of the ALDS against the Rays in mind.<\/p>\n<p>In case there was any doubt, Luke Voit erased it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe paid him to pitch in October,\u2019\u2019 Voit said Sunday. \u201cIt\u2019s a lock, and everyone knows that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It might not be quite that simple, but the Yankees have high expectations for these playoffs \u2014 and if they are to meet them, Cole will have to live up to his billing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need him to go out there and throw seven or eight strong innings and do what he does best,\u2019\u2019 Voit said. \u201cAnd he\u2019s got so much experience with that, we expect him to do really well [Monday] night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cole did what he was supposed to do in the wild-card <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> opener in Cleveland, when he held down the Indians\u2019 lineup, while the Yankees\u2019 offense knocked around AL Cy Young Award favorite Shane Bieber.<\/p>\n<p>The task could be tougher Monday, pitching at Petco Park in San Diego against a Rays team that finished with the best record in the AL, and who will have left-hander Blake Snell on the mound.<\/p>\n<p>But Cole has been here before. Last year, Cole started twice against Tampa Bay in the ALDS while with the Astros, and he allowed just one run and struck out 25 over 15 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings in the two starts.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"200\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/playlist.megaphone.fm?e=ADL7353367967&amp;light=true\" width=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Cole didn\u2019t think there was much he could take from those performances into Monday\u2019s start, other than to prepare the same way.<\/p>\n<p>His season ended last year with a Game 7 loss to the Nationals in the World Series. Getting so close, he said Sunday at Petco Park, added to his determination to want to win it all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s what drives all of us,\u2019\u2019 Cole said of the desire to win a title. \u201cI have my own motivation in my journey to this point. In the end, both [teams] have to be as motivated as we possibly can to take that trophy down.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Despite his 2019 postseason success against the Rays, Cole has not duplicated those results while wearing pins<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>es.
