With the ability to quickly share documents and information comes the need to easily manage permissions. SharePoint has a robust permission management system that can make securing either sections or entire sites easy to do.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Accessing_SharePoint_Site_Permissions\"><\/span>Accessing SharePoint Site Permissions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once you have navigated to a SharePoint site, click on the Gear icon in the upper right to access the Site permissions link.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7021 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cloudsavvyit.com\/thumbcache\/0\/0\/a0ab2f64c1284f51f513fc934d016750\/p\/uploads\/2020\/09\/f3ec2a40.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1255\" height=\"620\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>For Modern SharePoint sites, which are assumed to be in use for this article, you will find a simplified permission view. Once you have opened the Site sharing settings pane, you will see a number of options. Most of these are self-explanatory from the screen itself, but they offer fast access to useful options. Many times system administrators or site administrators will turn off the allowing of access requests. This screen allows you to do a few different tasks.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Define custom permission levels<\/li>\n<li>Modify Access Request Settings<\/li>\n<li>Modify Site Collection Administrators<\/li>\n<li>Check Permissions for a specific group or user<\/li>\n<li>Create, Edit, and Remove Groups<\/li>\n<li>Grant permissions to a specific user or group and a given permission level<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7024 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cloudsavvyit.com\/thumbcache\/0\/0\/10612b37548f8efc980411043b8ee023\/p\/uploads\/2020\/09\/bd3709f2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1251\" height=\"508\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Taking a look at the Site Collection Administrators, we can see that the default created owners group currently exists as the only set of administrators. A Site Collection Administrator has full control over that given site and overrides and specific permissions set on a document library, list, or another resource.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7025 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cloudsavvyit.com\/thumbcache\/0\/0\/91a1b7dcd9cd9317e7c6ec85e5b142cb\/p\/uploads\/2020\/09\/d4247004.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1251\" height=\"622\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<p>There are a number of default permission levels as seen below. These are usually enough for many sites, but there is a wide range of permissions that when set correctly, can unlock a number of different and useful scenarios.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Full Control<\/strong> \u2013 All available permissions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Design<\/strong> \u2013 Can view, add, update, delete, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>rove, and customize the site.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Edit<\/strong> \u2013 Can add, edit, and delete lists. Can view, add, update, and delete list items and documents.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Contribute<\/strong> \u2013 Can view, add, update, and delete list items and documents.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Read<\/strong> \u2013 Can view pages and list items, and download documents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Of course, we may want to create a custom permission level. This is a permission level that is uniquely tailored to a specific use case. There are a large number of permissions available for this which you can read about here. Once this permission level has been created, you will be able to assign this permission level to a given group or user.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7026 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cloudsavvyit.com\/thumbcache\/0\/0\/79bd6edb0233fb589fdb1b93acbafaae\/p\/uploads\/2020\/09\/63cb7fe8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1256\" height=\"472\" onload=\"pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\" onerror=\"this.onerror=null;pagespeed.lazyLoadImages.loadIfVisibleAndMaybeBeacon(this);\"\/><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Granting_Permissions_and_Modifying_Groups\"><\/span>Granting Permissions and Modifying Groups<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Back on the Advanced Site Permissions page, if you click on the Grant Permissions button you will have the option to grant permissions to a user or group with a given permission level.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>A useful ability is that mail-enabled security groups will show up in the list. Simply providing a name, description, owner, membership settings, and request settings will get you started.
