Sasha Lane<\/strong>, whose breakout performance in Andrea Arnold\u2019s 2016 independent film American Honey<\/em> arguably deserved Academy Awards attention, is heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.<\/p>\n

Lane has reportedly joined the cast of Loki<\/strong><\/em>, the time-hopping Disney+ series<\/a> that has Tom Hiddleston<\/strong> on board to reprise his role as the trickster god from the Thor\u00a0<\/em>and Avengers<\/em> movies.
<\/span><\/p>\n

GoldenGlobes.com<\/a>\u00a0recently published a profile of the actress, and just before their interview segment of the piece begins, the author dropped a small nugget of news<\/a>. The author states that Lane \u201cwill next app<\/a>ear in the superhero series Loki<\/em>, starring Tom Hiddleston.\u201d Since GoldenGlobes.com is not exactly known for breaking news \u2013 especially this type of high-profile superhero casting news that the trades scratch and claw each other to be the first to break \u2013 I\u2019ve reached out to Lane\u2019s representatives to get confirmation about this and will update this article accordingly if\/when they respond.
\nBut let\u2019s assume for the moment that this Sasha Lane Loki<\/em> casting news is legit. Marvel Studios guru Kevin Feige and the various productions he\u2019s overseen in the past decade-plus have been exceptional at casting, and here is yet another example of them being able to attract another talented up-and-comer into the Marvel family. Her previous credits include Hellboy<\/em>, The Miseducation of Cameron Post<\/em>, Hearts Beat Loud<\/em>, and Daniel Isn\u2019t Real<\/em>, among others.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no mention of what type of role Lane might be playing in the show (more on that in a second), but if true, she\u2019ll be joining Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino<\/strong>, Owen Wilson<\/strong>, Richard E. Grant<\/strong>, and\u00a0Gugu Mbatha-Raw<\/strong>\u00a0in the cast. Kate Herron<\/strong> (Sex Education<\/em>) is directing the show, which will tie into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness<\/em> and address Loki\u2019s struggle with identity. The series follows the version of Loki\u00a0who stole the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame<\/a><\/em> and subsequently travel<\/a>s to different time periods to evade capture and wreak his particular brand of havoc.<\/p>\n

In the Golden Globes interview, which is largely focused on her work in the new Amazon adaptation of Utopia<\/em>, Lane revealed that she has not been a voracious reader of comics. \u201cTo be honest, it\u2019s never really sparked me,\u201d she said. \u201cI found a couple of graphic novels that were true crime murder mysteries and that was kind of cool, but I\u2019ve never really had that kind of interest in them, though this one is obviously good.\u201d Of course, a person doesn\u2019t need to be steeped in comic book lore to deliver a great performance in a comic book movie or TV series, but I wonder if this could mean that Lane might be playing a brand new character in Loki who didn\u2019t previously exist in the pages of Marvel Comics. I acknowledge that\u2019s a big leap, but since there\u2019s not much else to go on right now, why not speculate wildly?<\/p>\n
