After posting the image to the MDC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a>, viewers were highly impressed by the natural creation \u2014 and quite alarmed by its horror factor \u2014 with the pic racking up over 550 comments and 3,000 reactions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMDC Media Specialist Francis Skalicky sn<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed a pic of the orb-weaver\u2019s spiderweb while out on a trail in Springfield recently,\u201d the department writes<span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">, noting that a number of orb-weaver species live in Missouri. Their webs become most noticeable in the late summer and fall, when the adult spiders become their largest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">\u201cThis one is a bit bigger than a dinner plate,\u201d the caption continues. The angle the photo was taken at, and the intricate web\u2019s location between two trees, however, make it appear significantly bigger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While the web is impressive, it is not unique for orb-weaver spiders, which frequently weave large webs despite usually growing to only about a half-inch, not including their legs. Still, commenters bugged out about it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d freak out seeing this, knowing there is a spider the size of my hand nearby *shudders*,\u201d wrote one arachnophobe on the post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGorgeous piece from an architect of nature \u2026 until you run into it!\u201d wrote another. One commenter joked that it\u2019s \u201cthe kind that literally \u2018catch\u2019 people if they walk through them at night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Others chimed in with various versions of \u201cHell no,\u201d and to call the spider an \u201coverachiever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to weaving its \u201clace doily\u201d-like web, as one commenter put it, the spiders also control populations of flying insects, according to an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nature.mdc.mo.gov\/discover-nature\/field-guide\/spotted-orbweavers\">information page<\/a> about spotted orb-weavers on the MDC\u2019s website. Despite the large size of the eerily stunning webs, the spiders are actually quite delicate creatures vulnerable to predation.
