\n Left-coast watch: Cali\u2019s Self-Made Disease<\/strong><\/p>\n

Steven Greenhut at The Orange County Register agrees <\/a>with President Trump: California is a \u201ccautionary tale\u201d as it \u201cbounds\u201d from crisis to crisis. The latest: \u201craging wildfires\u201d sparked, in part, by \u201cpoor land management, ill-conceived liability and insurance laws and the misuse of firefighting budgets.\u201d Add the state\u2019s homeless scourge, housing costs, \u201cclogged\u201d roads, squandered billions, \u201ceye-popping public-sector pay deals\u201d and \u201cstagnant\u201d schools, and the Golden State becomes a picture of failure. \u201cCalifornia isn\u2019t the only state with problems, but most of them are the result of government inefficiency and malfeasance.\u201d Officials \u201crefuse to consider nongovernment app<\/a>roaches\u201d; instead, their solutions are always the same: \u201cRaise taxes on the rich.\u201d California isn\u2019t yet Detroit, \u201cbut don\u2019t forget that 60 years ago, Detroit was one of the nation\u2019s great cities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iconoclast: The Medieval Left<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Trump\u2019s critics are \u201cgetting all biblical over COVID\u2019s visitation upon the White House,\u201d observes Spiked Online\u2019s Brendan O\u2019Neill<\/a>. \u201cKarmic retribution\u201d is \u201conly a slightly more PC, hippyish way to say what people in medieval times thought about plagues: that they were divine punishment.\u201d Critics \u201chave imbued COVID with moral power and even political authority,\u201d for Trump\u2019s \u201csins\u201d are \u201cfundamentally political\u201d: He \u201chas bristled against the rule of experts and the contemporary liberal orthodoxy that says science<\/a> has all the answers to our political and moral problems.\u201d The critics suggest \u201cif Trump stays in power, America will be visited by floods, fires and plagues; death will come to your door; pestilence will be visited upon the land.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the right: The Menace of Critical Theory<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Trump\u2019s recent moves to stop the use of critical race theory in training federal workers should only be a start, Lindsey Burke and Mike Gonzalez argue at National Review<\/a>. The broader disease of critical theory \u2014 which holds that all whites are hopelessly racist, while minorities lack all moral agency \u2014 is rampant in US education. \u201cIf you or your son or daughter is in a university, studying some form of this will be unavoidable. In fact, even children in K-12 schools cannot escape being force-fed these theories.\u201d Indeed, The New York Times\u2019 anti-American 1619 Project, now \u201ca curriculum being used in some 4,500 classrooms across the country,\u201d is only the latest manifestation. Critical theory dominates schools of education, where \u201ccritical pedagogy\u201d \u201cdivides individuals into groups of either \u2018oppressors\u2019 or \u2018oppressed.\u2019\u200a\u201d Key to the solution: \u201cStates should ensure that parents get the transparency they deserve about what their children are being taught in public schools.\u201d<\/p>\n

Media<\/a> critic: Leave ACB\u2019s Faith Alone<\/strong><\/p>\n

The anti-religious sentiments targeting Amy Coney Barrett\u2019s faith group, People of Praise, are ultimately \u201ceither the result of willful ignorance or a disingenuous attempt to portray charismatic Catholics in a negative light,\u201d charges Dale Coulter at First Things<\/a>. People of Praise emerged from the global charismatic movement of the 1960s, emphasizing \u201ca strong sense of the personal presence of Christ, empowerment through the Holy Spirit, a deep love for others .\u2009.\u2009. and spoken utterances that approximate human languages (speaking in tongues).\u201d Pope Francis instituted an \u00adinternational council to oversee such groups, and \u201cmany charismatic Catholic communities, including People of Praise, are in good standing\u201d with the Vatican. It\u2019s obvious that \u201cmembers of People of Praise are normal Christians,\u201d so critics should \u201cleave her religion, including its charismatic dimension, alone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Ignoring Joe\u2019s Decline<\/strong><\/p>\n

With President Trump sidelined by COVID, asks The Boston Herald\u2019s Howie Carr<\/a>, will the media finally pay attention to Joe Biden\u2019s \u201cobvious mental decline\u201d? Of course not. For months, mainstream outlets have \u00adrefused to examine the ex-veep\u2019s \u201cincoherent babbling\u201d \u2014 such as, among other whoopsies, claiming COVID has killed 200 million Americans, bungling what FEMA stands for and forgetting the opening words of the Declaration of Independence. As the campaign winds down, expect the media to ignore this obvious senescence, \u201ceven though the video evidence is at their fingertips.\u201d<\/p>\n
