Credit: The University of Queensland<br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technology<\/a> that helps to quickly extract and analyze genetic material could be used for cheap, accurate and mobile COVID-19 testing, including at airports and remote testing centers.\n                                                <\/p>\n<p>                                                                                &#8216;Dipstick&#8217; technology, developed by the University of Queensland&#8217;s Professor Jimmy Botella and Dr. Michael Mason, allows genetic material to be extracted in as little as 30 seconds, with a full molecular diagnosis in 40 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That process is currently achieved using large and expensive commercial set-ups that require multistep procedures and specialized laboratory equipment,&#8221; Professor Botella said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In contrast, our dipstick tech is incredibly cheap and can be used virtually anywhere, without the need for specialized equipment or a laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our tech enables the purification of DNA and RNA nucleic acids from patient samples\u2014a critical step in COVID-19 diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Combined with a portable diagnostic machine we&#8217;ve developed\u2014which fits in your hand and can be powered by a car&#8217;s cigarette lighter connection\u2014we could enable faster identification and isolation of positive patients, helping to reduce the spread of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re hoping it will be used to expand COVID-19 diagnostic testing to non-laboratory environments such as airports, remote testing centers and GP clinics.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The process can be used to extract genetic material from most living organisms, including people, livestock, bacteria and viruses.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Michael Mason said the team had already <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lied the technology in other areas, primarily to fight plant pathogens.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-gallery lightGallery\">\n<div data-thumb=\"https:\/\/scx1.b-cdn.net\/csz\/news\/tmb\/2020\/1-uqtechcouldo.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/scx2.b-cdn.net\/gfx\/news\/hires\/2020\/1-uqtechcouldo.jpg\" data-sub-html=\"UQ's portable Diagnostic Droid, which can then offer a full molecular diagnosis in as little as 40 minutes.
