Resident Evil<\/em><\/strong> adaptations will never die. While the Paul W.S. Anderson film series<\/a> seems to have come to an end, all-new takes on the video game<\/a> franchise are on our way. Netflix is developing a\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> TV series, and now, a new\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> movie is in the works, too. And there\u2019s an extensive cast list to go along with that news<\/a>:\u00a0Kaya Scodelario<\/strong>, Robbie Amell<\/strong>, Hannah John-Kamen<\/strong>, and more \u2013 and they\u2019re playing characters pulled directly from the first three\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> games, which suggests this is going to be a more direct adaptation than the Anderson films.<\/p>\n

Ready for more\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em>? Deadline has revealed the cast of the\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> reboot from\u00a0Constantin Film and writer-director\u00a0Johannes Roberts<\/strong> (47 Meters Down<\/em>).\u00a0Kaya Scodelario (Crawl<\/em>)\u00a0stars as Claire Redfield, with Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp<\/em>) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (Upload<\/em>) as Chris Redfield, Tom Hopper<\/strong> (The Umbrella Academy<\/em>) as Albert Wesker, Avan Jogia<\/strong> (Zombieland: Double Tap<\/em>) as Leon S. Kennedy, and Neal McDonough<\/strong> (Yellowstone<\/em>) as William Birkin.
\nFans of the video game franchise will notice right away that these characters are directly pulled from the first three\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> games, which indicates this will be a much more faithful film adaptation. The Paul W.S. Anderson\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> and its subsequent sequels did not take this app<\/a>roach, opting instead to only loosely follow the mythology of the games.<\/p>\n

As far as plot details go, all we know is that the movie is \u201cset in 1998 on a fateful night in Raccoon City.\u201d The first\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> game, while released in 1996, was set on July 24, 1998 and was set entirely within a mansion hiding a dangerous science<\/a> experiment. The first two sequels were set shortly afterward, taking place during the same time period and following characters navigating a burgeoning zombie apocalypse. Since the characters listed above come from these first three games, it\u2019s possible that this film will adapt those storylines.<\/p>\n

Since Resident Evil 2<\/em> and Resident Evil 3<\/em> were recently remade and released to acclaim from game critics and players alike, tackling those stories makes perfect sense.<\/p>\n

Regarding this new adaptation, writer-director\u00a0Roberts said: \u201cWith this movie, I really wanted to go back to the original first two games and re-create the terrifying visceral experience I had when I first played them whilst at the same time telling a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today\u2019s audiences.\u201d<\/p>\n

Franchise producer Robert Kulzer added: \u201cAfter a dozen games, six live-action movies and hundreds of pages of fan fiction, we felt compelled to return to the year 1998, to explore the secrets hidden in the walls of the Spenser Mansion and Raccoon City.\u201d
\nSony Pictures\u2019 Screen Gems will distribute the\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> reboot domestically while\u00a0Constantin is handling German-speaking territories, Elevation will distribute in Canada, Metropolitan in France, and Sony Pictures Releasing International handling remaining territories. It\u2019s worth noting that this take on\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em>\u00a0is different from the\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em> Netflix is working on, which is a TV series about teenage sisters moving to Raccoon City.<\/p>\n
