\n A protester in North Carolina was arrested with an AR-style rifle with two 30-round magazines \u2014 as cops used \u201cchemical agents\u201d in a shocking confrontation decried by local politicians.<\/p>\n

Disturbing live video from a reporter with Queen City Nerve shows protesters marching through Charlotte Tuesday with their hands in the air chanting \u201cDon\u2019t shoot\u201d \u2014 before a series<\/a> of flash bangs left everyone scrambling and screaming.<\/p>\n

However, they app<\/a>eared to be penned in from all sides by riot police as smoke from tear gas enveloped the air around them, with the narrator saying pellets were also being fired from a car park to the side.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt went bad really fast,\u201d Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles admitted on Kiss 95.1 Wednesday, calling it \u201ca horrible incident.\u201d<\/p>\n

State Rep. Chaz Beasley, a lawyer, tweeted that he was \u201cabsolutely FURIOUS\u201d with police, saying, \u201cThis video shows [police] firing upon peaceful protestors with tear gas, flash bangs, and pepper balls from THREE sides.<\/p>\n

\u201cI refuse to stand for my constituents being attacked like this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said it only acted after officers were \u201cassaulted with bottles, rocks, and chemical agents\u201d and gave \u201cmultiple avenues to leave the area.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter refusal to leave, chemical agents were deployed to protect officers and the public,\u201d the force claimed.<\/p>\n

Moments later, it tweeted, \u201cA protestor was just arrested with an AR Rifle with two 30-round magazines.\u201d<\/p>\n

The department\u2019s justification for its heavy-handed attack sparked outrage, with many suggesting the video proved it was unjustified.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a former Army Ranger, that was a classic ambush,\u201d Jason Baker insisted.<\/p>\n

\u201cFunneled them into the kill zone, had snipers above, cut off exfil lanes with tear gas and raining down the pain on folks who were just marching with no warning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another person tweeted that all police did \u201cwas ambush the protesters by setting up a funnel into a kill box,\u201d saying the department was \u201ctreating protesters like militant enemies of the US.\u201d<\/p>\n

Evan Kent also insisted he did not hear any dispersal orders. \u201cThe crowd was peaceful until you fired tear gas and pellets,\u201d he tweeted. \u201cYou trapped 600 people with no exit and fired on us for no reason, with no way to leave.\u201d<\/p>\n

The department later said it was \u201cinternally reviewing\u201d the response to \u201censure policy and protocol were followed.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
