The left is \u201cin a frenzy of Schadenfreude\u201d over President Trump coming down with COVID-19, notes Heather Mac Donald at City Journal<\/a>. New York Times columnist Frank Bruni says the diagnosis proves the country has been lax and it\u2019s time \u201cto be safer.\u201d Huh? \u201cThe United States has wiped out decades of hard-won prosperity by following the spirit-crushing injunction to \u2018stay safe.\u2019\u200a\u201d And \u201cTrump\u2019s infection\u201d is neither a \u201cvindication nor a refutation\u201d of any policy. \u201cLockdown proponents\u201d hope Trump will close the economy, but a policy\u2019s \u201cimpact on any given policymaker should not determine that judgment.\u201d When Trump tweeted, \u201cDon\u2019t be afraid of COVID,\u201d the media<\/a> \u201cblew its top.\u201d But \u201cTrump is now modeling masculine leadership at its best: upbeat, rational and unbowed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: A Blackout on Antifa Coverage<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u201ccontinuing plague of violence\u201d in US cities \u201chas virtually disapp<\/a>eared from\u201d most media in the face of \u201cwall-to-wall\u201d coverage of President Trump\u2019s COVID-19 status, observes Byron York at the Washington Examiner<\/a>. Yet the chaos continues, with Portland still seeing regular assaults on its courthouse district. Early Sunday, \u201ca Portland officer was doing paperwork in his car when a rioter smashed a window and filled the car with pepper spray.\u201d The perp\u2019s car held \u201cwindow punch tools, pepper spray, throwing knives, a laser pointer, a slingshot, rocks and more,\u201d police said. Yet he was rapidly released, like so many others. This violence, like also-underreported weekend flare-ups in DC and Seattle, \u201cis clearly the work of the violent extremist organization Antifa.\u201d Joe Biden claimed last week that \u201cAntifa is an idea and not an organization.\u201d Argues York: \u201cPerhaps if the violence were covered more in the media, Biden would be forced to defend his indefensible claim.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreign desk: Why Armenia Fights<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAmericans have other crises on their minds,\u201d writes Mark Movsesian at First Things<\/a>, \u201cbut it\u2019s important to understand what is happening\u201d between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Last week, the \u201cpetro-flush\u201d Azeri government launched an offensive against Nagorno-Karabakh, an ethnic Armenian-Christian territory lodged inside Muslim Azerbaijan. \u201cThirty years ago, in response to discriminatory treatment and outright pogroms against Armenians\u201d \u2014 and against the backdrop of the Armenian genocide during World War I \u2014 \u201cthe region declared independence.\u201d With Armenian backing, it prevailed over the Azeris, but the latter, with help from Turkey, are bent on retaking it. Armenians are willing to reach a negotiated settlement, but for them, \u201cthe Karabakh conflict is part of a long, existential struggle. . . . They remember the genocide and fear what would happen to Christian Armenians if they agreed to evacuate and return Karabakh to Azerbaijan. Given past history, foreign assurances of protection ring hollow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Culture critic: Agatha Christie\u2019s Century<\/strong><\/p>\n

Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett is \u201cthe living embodiment of the things that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg spent her career fighting for,\u201d but left-wing feminists can\u2019t \u201cissue even the mildest form of praise\u201d for her, charges Jennifer C. Braceras at The Detroit News<\/a>. Progressives are \u201cblinded\u201d by \u201can extreme ideology that demands political commitments from nominees to the federal bench.\u201d The \u201cattacks are personal, baseless and speculative\u201d; the left should abandon its \u201cmean-girls campaign to tear this exemplar down.\u201d<\/p>\n
