To get the most out of your Google TV streaming device, you\u2019ll want to find and download some apps and games. Unfortunately, doing this on devices like the Chromecast with Google TV isn\u2019t as easy as opening the Play Store, but we\u2019ll walk you through it.<\/p>\n

Devices like the Chromecast with Google TV have access to Android apps made for televisions. However, you can\u2019t actually open the Google Play Store directly, like you can with Android TV. Instead, the store\u2019s search functionality is built into the \u201cApps\u201d tab on the Home screen.<\/p>\n

\"Select<\/p>\n

Under the Apps tab, you\u2019ll find new categories to explore. Selecting a category will open a list of apps or games.<\/p>\n

The \u201cApps\u201d tab also has a number of other rows, with \u201cFeatured\u201d app and game recommendations organized by category.<\/p>\n

Simply choose an app or game, and then select \u201cInstall\u201d on the information page. You can also view screenshots of that item under the \u201cInstall\u201d button.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s all nice for browsing, but what if you have a specific app in mind? Since you can\u2019t open the Play Store directly, you\u2019ll have to search for that app or game.<\/p>\n

In the \u201cApp Categories\u201d row, just select \u201cSearch for Apps.\u201d<\/p>\n

This opens an on-screen keyboard, so you can enter the name of the item. Select the Search icon when you\u2019re done. If your remote has a Google Assistant button, you can use that to perform a voice search.<\/p>\n

If there are Google TV apps that match your search terms, you\u2019ll see a list of results. Select the app or game you\u2019re looking for.<\/p>\n

Select \u201cInstall\u201d on the information page. Again, you can view screenshots of that item under the \u201cInstall\u201d button.<\/p>\n

Once the app is installed, select \u201cOpen\u201d to launch it directly from the Play Store listing. You\u2019ll find any apps or games you\u2019ve just installed at the end of the Apps row on the Home screen. If you have more than 12, you\u2019ll have to select \u201cSee All\u201d to view the entire list.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a bit strange that Google doesn\u2019t allow you to simply open the Play Store on its own set-top boxes, dongles, and televisions, but the \u201cApps\u201d tab is just as good for browsing. And, of course, you can always find anything you\u2019re looking for with the Search feature.<\/p>\n
