\n Songwriter\u2018s block can be a problem for even the world\u2019s most successful musicians<\/a>.\u00a0They can sometimes overcome it by taking breaks, seeking new forms of inspiration, or simply pushing through. And if none of that works, they could try out a new\u00a0AI lyrics generator called\u00a0keyword2lyrics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The system was created by\u00a0Mathi Gatthi<\/a>, a data scientist from Argentina, who told TNW\u00a0he got the idea from his own songwriting struggles:<\/p>\n

Sometimes I have a few ideas that I want to turn into a song, but I\u2019m too lazy for that, so I thought it would be cool to make a program that generates lyrics from isolated keywords or phrases.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Gatthi developed the tool by training\u00a0OpenAI\u2018s GPT-2 language model on songs\u00a0that Google lists when you search for \u201ctop artists 20th century\u201d and \u201ctop artists 21st century,\u201d and extracted keywords from them using a tool called\u00a0yake<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He then turned the system into a public website, with a creativity dial that lets you adjust the randomness of the generated text, and a button\u00a0that reduces the repetitiveness of the results.<\/p>\n

As the AI has been\u00a0largely trained on pop hits<\/a><\/span>, expect a strong dose of cheese in the lyrics it generates.\u00a0<\/span>In the future, Gatthi wants to add a larger variety of genres, and then let users choose the\u00a0genre style they want the program to generate. But he said it\u2019s already producing some pretty creative results:<\/span><\/p>\n

\nI think a lot of times you feed it with a phrase or words and it creates a reasonable song, similarly to what you would expect if you write it for yourself. That\u2019s pretty cool for saving time but I like that sometimes it does completely the opposite, it comes with interpretations totally different to what you would expect, which is really enriching. Like this song written using \u201cHe is like our boss\u201d as a starting point, it ended up with a pretty messed up story about someone with a double personality and daddy issues:\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The tool can also offer fresh takes on existing lyrics, like the classic Migos chorus to their hit song Versace:<\/p>\n

The rise of AI songwriting tools like\u00a0keyword2lyrics\u00a0has sparked fears<\/a> that\u00a0artificial intelligence could one day replace human musicians. But Gatthi\u2019s more excited than concerned about their potential:<\/p>\n

I think it\u2019s similar to photography in the XX century, it didn\u2019t kill painting or the creative process at all, it impulsed new art styles like photography and impressionism. In a similar way, I think tools like keyword2lyrics\u00a0won\u2019t kill songwriting, it\u2019s just going to change the process.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
