\n Most people would be proud of their name on historic monuments or successful businesses \u2014 but John Oliver isn\u2019t most people. He prefers No. 2 status.<\/p>\n

In an ongoing \u201cfeud\u201d with the town of Danbury, Conn. \u2014 a town which the \u201cLast Week Tonight\u201d host has described as a \u201csad, empty void where hope goes to die\u201d<\/a> \u2014 Oliver challenged their local leaders to prove just how seriously they\u2019re taking his insults during Sunday\u2019s episode of his show.<\/p>\n

And where\u2019s perhaps the most humiliating place to see your name memorialized, according to the potty-mouthed British comedia<\/a>n? A sewage treatment plant.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongratulations, Mr. Oliver \u2014 you now have a poop plant named after you,\u201d said Mayor Mark Boughton on Thursday, after the Danbury council app<\/a>roved an 18-1 resolution, with one abstention.<\/p>\n

Along with the new honorific, Oliver also pledged to give $55,000 to Connecticut charities. Piggy-backing on his contributions, local banks have also just launched a community fundraiser for the United Way\u2019s Danbury Food Collaborative, where 100 percent of proceeds will go to benefit struggling families during the pandemic, according to the News-Times<\/a>. They reportedly expect to bring in around $100,000.<\/p>\n

As a bonus, patrons who give $500 or more will be invited on a guided tour of the new space.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a much-needed laugh,\u201d council member Roberto Alves told the news<\/a> service. \u201cIf John Oliver wants a poop factory named after him, in his own words, \u2018cool.\u2019\u2009\u201d<\/p>\n

The city council had received about 100 letters from their constituents in support of the name change for the recently updated wastewater treatment center, though some council members needed convincing, such as Bob Taborsak, who abstained from the vote and suggested instead the plant be named after \u201can engineer who designed it.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Mayor Boughton wasn\u2019t convinced there may be others vying for the credit.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if an engineer would want a sewer plant named after him,\u201d he said. \u201cJohn Oliver needs this naming. He wants this sewer plant named after him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Councilman John Esposito, who dissented the majority vote, sniffed at the rank prank from the Emmy winner.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I appreciate the humor during a time when we could all use a laugh, I personally don\u2019t find anything funny about insulting our community or least of all threatening violence to our children,\u201d said council member John Esposito, the one who voted against the name.<\/p>\n

But even Councilman Esposito couldn\u2019t resist an easy pun.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry to be a party pooper here,\u201d he added. \u201cThat\u2019s just really how I feel.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
