\n A Vermont school principal was placed on administrative leave after she posted a Facebook<\/a> status about the Black Lives Matter movement that has been blasted as \u201cinsanely tone-deaf.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tiffany Riley, who has been principal of the K-12 Windsor School in Windsor since 2015, made the comments on her personal page on Wednesday, The Valley News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cI firmly believe that Black Lives Matter, but I DO NOT agree with the coercive measures taken to get to this point across; some of which are falsified in an attempt to prove a point,\u201d Riley wrote, according to the school\u2019s website. \u201cWhile I want to get behind BLM, I do not think people should be made to feel they have to choose black race over human race.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I understand the urgency to feel compelled to advocate for black lives, what about our fellow law enforcement?\u201d she added. \u201cWhat about all others who advocate for and demand equity for all? Just because I don\u2019t walk around with a BLM sign should not mean I am a racist.\u201d<\/p>\n

A group of recent graduates slammed the post as \u201cinsanely tone-deaf\u201d and the Mount Ascutney School District Board wrote in a letter that it was \u201cuniformly app<\/a>alled\u201d by the post.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ignorance, prejudice, and lack of judgement in these statements are utterly contrary to the values we espouse as a school board and district,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n

The school board held an emergency meeting Friday and voted unanimously to place Riley on paid administrative leave \u2014 with no plans to bring her back on board.<\/p>\n

Superintendent David Baker told The Valley News the district will work on a \u201cmutually agreed upon severance package\u201d with Riley.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey don\u2019t see any way that she\u2019s going to go forward as the principal of that building given those comments and that statement,\u201d Baker said. \u201cIt\u2019s clear that the community has lost faith in her ability to lead.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a follow-up Facebook post, Riley wrote that she \u201cunintentionally offended\u201d people, VT Digger reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand the struggles of the black lives community and stand with them in their fight against racism,\u201d Riley wrote.<\/p>\n

But school board chair Elizabeth Burrows told the outlet the second post was unhelpful.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt showed no assurances to African American families \u2014 black families \u2014 that their children could feel safe \u2014 that they are cherished and loved,\u201d Burrows told the outlet.<\/p>\n

Riley also wrote an email to school board leaders and the superintendent arguing her post had been \u201ctwisted\u201d and \u201ctaken completely out of context,\u201d according to the report.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
